REPORTS TO: Plant Supervisor
POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary role of the Inedible Dryer Operator is to effectively execute SOP’s related to dryer operation and sanitation to ensure production batches are processed correctly and in a timely manner and perform all documentation requirements associated with the tasks completed. The accurate completion of tasks and documentation supports our Food Safety and Quality Program. This position requires shift work, weekend and holiday rotations in a 24/7 operation. As required, the Animal Food Dryer Operator provides back-up for the other positions as well as assigned by the Plant Supervisor.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
· Maintain all logs and file all paperwork
· Efficiently shuts down and starts dryer with little to no errors
· Efficiently run the concentration system with little to no errors
· Clean all tanks, lines and membranes using a CIP system, switch valves, monitor time, temperature, and flow
· Monitor the heat-treated temperature of the product as required
· Be able to make decision and do a simple math/calculation.
· Assist in physical inventory counts whenever necessary
· Provide accurate and timely completion of all pertinent departmental forms
· Responsible for ensuring a safe working environment and adherence to Health and Safety obligations including wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment
· Perform tasks assigned by Management
· Operates the Animal Food Dryer, PLC Screen, Centrifugal Pump, Diaphragm Pump, Positive Pumps, Reverse Osmosis, Pallet Jack and Solids Check.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
· Meticulous attention to detail.
· Sound working knowledge of and adherence to HACCP and SQF requirements and standard operating procedures.
· Ability to perform under HACCP and SQF standards for quality.
· Effectively collaborates with others to achieve area and team goals. Communicates information with fellow team members, lead hand, and other department team members.
· Time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks within a fast- paced environment.
· Define and evaluate problems, make rational recommendations, and implement solutions.
· Participate in required meetings, safety discussions, and committees providing input and recommendations.
· Deal with changes, delays, or unexpected events in a calm and timely manner. I.E. Willingness to learn new equipment.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
· High school diploma and experience as an operator in a high volume manufacturing environment related to food, chemical packaging, and/or a similar industry.
· Pasteurizer operation (mixing and blending).
· Working knowledge of HACCP, SQF, or other quality systems is an asset.
· Strong technical competence I.E. Proven ability to safely operate production/processing equipment.
· Mechanical aptitude. Dexterity to turn valves, connect pipes, assemble fittings.
· Fluent English (verbal and written communication skills) with the ability to follow and give clear instructions.
· Highly detail oriented.
· Able to lift 25 kg
· Able to work in confined spaces.
· Capability to work independently without constant supervision.
· Working proficiency in MS Word, MS Outlook, and spreadsheet/database (MS Excel). PLC experience an asset.
