What to do when your pet is missing
Description
Be prepared!!! What to do before, during and after your pet has gone missing:
BEFORE:
Regardless the pet (horse, dog, cat, bird, etc.) there are things you can do when you become a pet owner that will assist in getting your pet home safely and quickly. Ask your veterinarian for the best ID you can get. As an example for a cat or dog:
• Get your pet microchipped. Often pets can take off without a collar, a microchip is easily scanned by vets, animal shelters or the pound. Register your information with the microchip company. There is absolutely no way to find you if you don’t register!
• At your pets yearly checkup have him/her scanned to make sure the chip has not moved and is still working.
• Get a tattoo for your pet, just like the microchip keep information up to date and check fading with your vet yearly.
• Get your pet a collar, city license, name and phone number tag and write your phone number on the inside of the collar using a permanent marker.
• Keep some information handy; coat length, colour, eye colour, microchip/tattoo information.
