Amati violin with bow and case
Description
This fiddle i bought at the Halifax Folklore Centre in 1991. It
was for sale on consignment, no negotiation on the price. I paid $750 for it. On that day i tried 5 other fiddles in the practice room there. This fiddle made me laugh, really it did. It was well marked, with dings and scratches and marks from a microphone, likely played at community hall dances.
Written on the label is "Nicolaus Amatus, fecit in Cremona 1643"
I played it for years, at community events, with fiddle groups, busking by farm markets, at hospitals and seniors residences.
In 2017 or so, i had an excellent luthier replace the neck as it had loosened from the body. The original fingerboard remains. The luthier did a superb job.
The bow i paid $200 for, around 1991 as well.
The case is hard cover, somewhat heavy. Made in Canada by Everest Instrument Cases. The key locks the case when closed.
I hope the buyer finds as much joy and creates as much music with this fiddle as i have over the last 30 years.
