QH x Welsh large pony gelding for lease
Description
It’s with a heavy heart I’m putting my boy up for lease or sale to the right people. He will not be available until mid summer/fall. As much as I don’t want to do this, I’ll be leaving for school in the fall and can not offer him the time he deserves. With this being said, I am in no rush and he will not go to just anyone.
Risk It All (Risk) is a 13.3hh Quarter Horse x Welsh Pony. At 10 years old (May 10 2009) he’s still got lots of life left to give. Although he is short, he’s built like a tank and can easily take on a small adult, youth, or child.
Broke w/t/c, side passes, works gate, spins on forehand and rear, backs up etc.
Has been trained and used as a barrel horse the last 3 years with lots of room for improvement still, but would also excel in the Hunter pen as he adores jumping, or really any other discipline for that matter.
Risk is mellow and eager to please, but is forwards and requires an experienced rider. He is not for beginners, but a confident amateur with a coach could be a fit. Runs 3D locally on barrels but definitely has room to improve. hes patterned both to the left and right barrel. Knows barrels, poles, down and back, keyhole, flag, and has done pickup & relay, but has room for improvement in all these events. He does get shoot hot, but nothing dangerous. as long as you’re calm and encourage him in he’ll typically go in on his own just very worked up. He’ll walk right on in if someone leads him in.
Risk is great for the vet and farrier. I’ve had him barefoot as long as I have owned him, but would require shoes if you plan to trail ride on roads alot. Up to date on shots and worming. Loads and trailers great, drinks and eats fine traveling. Has been in a straight and slant load with me. Will stand tied all day long if you ask him. Easy keeper, doesn’t require grain or extra hay etc. His flaw is he’s almost TOO easy of a keeper, and requires a grazing muzzle 24/7 when the grass is green (which is provided) or else he’ll get way too obese. He loves attention, and I have no problem letting anyone ride him when they ask.
Trail rides alone or in a group great, loves swimming has done water crossings. He can be slightly spooky but he doesn’t take off, just jumps. He occasionally bucks, they are small and he only throws one or too when he’s irritated or he’s been left to sit for a while. He’s a pretty honest horse but not for the nervous rider.
Risks gets very light seasonal allergies (usually in the spring), vet said probably to do with dust. but the last two years they’ve hardly effected him, only on really dry days. I’ve found as long as you avoid the sand ring when it’s overly dusty, you’d never know he had any allergies. He does not require allergy medications as long as you take these precautions.
Looking for a partner who will help him excel more than I’m able to allow him to, either competing or just pleasure riding. I have lots of photos and videos available.
Open to on or off property lease.
