The Manitoba government is seeking a highly motivated Carpenter to work with the Asset Management Division of Consumer Protection and Government Services. Conditions of Employment:
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Red Seal journeyperson Carpenter's licence.
• Valid class 5 driver's licence for Manitoba
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check, and Security Check.
• Must be physically capable of performing the required duties of the position including heavy lifting, crouching, bending, working alone, in restricted areas, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, outdoors, exposure to chemicals, dusty air, noise levels, and be capable of wearing personal protection equipment.
• Must be able to work on-call and travel as required.
Qualifications:
Essential:
• Experience as a Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter with ongoing carpentry maintenance, minor construction and renovations of building structures.
• Extensive experience with the use of manual and power tools, such as table saws and drills.
• Knowledge of Workplace Safety & Health Act, safety policies, and safe work procedures.
• Knowledge of Canadian national building codes and national fire codes.
• Verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, clients, and the general public.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
• Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to work independently.
Duties:
The Carpenter will be responsible for performing duties at a journeyman level in the carpentry trade. Responsibilities include the maintenance and repair of building structures, roofs, walls, windows, doors, locks, flooring, woodwork, cabinetry, furniture, etc. The position utilizes, updates and maintains an established Preventative Maintenance/work order system and related reports and documents, and may coordinate and monitor projects performed by outside contractors and ensure compliance with the Manitoba Fire and Building Codes, safety regulations and departmental policies.
