Animal Bowen Therapy Information Sheet
• Bowen Therapy is a gentle, physical, and therapeutic method used for correcting all kinds of physical and emotional pain and restrictions such as spondylosis, rounded back, joint stiffness, arthritis, back pain, aggression and, anxiety. It is safe for animals of all ages.
• Bowen Therapy uses a light rolling motion over the belly of a muscle, tendon, and sometimes neurovascular bundle. These precision moves stimulate increase blood flow to the muscles, improve metabolism of local soft tissue, and release fascia tension.
• Each Bowen treatment involves multiple sets of moves with short 2-minute pauses for body integration.
• Although a Bowen move is done on specific parts of the body, its effects are felt throughout the entire animal. It has a balancing effect on the autonomic nervous system. Do not be alarmed if your animal feels slightly disoriented after the treatment.
• For the first 24 hours after each Bowen treatment, do not groom, stroke or pet your animal. Make sure your animal consumes sufficient quantity of fresh water to facilitate their body’s effort to remove lactic acid and other waste products. Due to fascia tension and muscle restrictions in areas of pain previously, tissue waste was not easily released.
• Depending on the animals receiving the treatment and the history of the pain/restriction, Animal Bowen Therapy recipients should expect improvement in 3-5 visits.
• Bowen Therapy for animals is not intended as a substitute for veterinary advice or any medical treatment. Please note that a referral from a veterinarian before Bowen Therapy is required by the Nova Scotia Veterinary Medical Association.
