PART-TIME SUPPORT WORKER FOR GENTLEMAN WITH AUTISM (Kamloops)
Looking for an experienced part-time support worker for a gentleman with behavioral disabilities of the autism spectrum to provide him with undivided attention, guide him in anxiety-generating social situations and help him make friends. He often prefers to be on his own and must be encouraged to spend more time enjoying the company of others.
The successful candidate will be a good match for this 32-year-old. He / She will be adept at fostering critical thinking, using cognitive strategies and gentle persuasion but more importantly averse to intimidating and coercing. Altogether, he / she will be a good fit who will become a role model and motivator, in sum, a natural mentor. The worker will be expected to allow time for meaningful physical activities.
The base pay rate is $25.00/hr. before vacation pay and the employer contributions to CPP, EI and WCB which bring the hourly pay to $28.34/hr. Generally, shifts run from 12 noon to 6 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. but a shift hours can be modified to suit a worker’s schedule elsewhere.
The work involves both respite and community inclusion. Therefore, the worker must have his / her own car for the latter, a valid BC driver’s licence and BC auto insurance coverage (min. $2 million). Mileage is capped at 30 km per shift unless arrangements are made for special outings. The present mileage rate is 70¢/km.
