In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the guns finally fell silent across the Western Front. A century later, the Royal Canadian Mint commemorates the anniversary of the Armistice with its most unusual coin yet: a poignant symbol of remembrance shaped like the steel helmets worn by Canadian combatants in the First World War.

- ONE HUNDRED YEARS LATER, CANADA HAS NOT FORGOTTEN: To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the armistice and the end of the First World War, a symbol of soldiering becomes the ultimate representation of bravery. Of sacrifice. Or remembrance.
- ONE OF OUR MOST UNFORGETTABLE FIRSTS: Our FIRST extreme curvature coin is an exceptional feat of craftsmanship, with a more deeply curved surface than any other concave- or convex-shaped coin.
- ANTIQUE FINISH: On the reverse, the antique finish gives the coin an appropriately aged and distressed look, while the engraved “cracks” and “markings” complete the helmet’s battle-worn appearance—a reminder of the reality of war and the hardships endured by those who fought and hoped for peace.
- A POWERFUL TRIBUTE TO COURAGE AND SACRIFICE: The small-scale replica of the steel helmet worn by Canadian soldiers in the First World War is a heartfelt tribute to their legacy, echoed in the poppy-flanked words engraved along the brim: “LEST WE FORGET N’OUBLIONS JAMAIS”.
DESIGN
Resembling the 1916 Mark I model worn by Canadian combatants, the combat helmet-shaped coin is the result of a careful collaboration between Royal Canadian Mint engravers and engineers. The coin’s unprecedented, extreme curvature allows for a realistic re-creation (on a much smaller scale) of the bowl-shaped headgear issued to Canadian troops and all British Empire forces in 1916. The reverse provides a view of the top of the now-iconic steel helmet, whose battle-worn appearance is the result of engraved “cracks” and “markings” beneath the antique finish that gives it all a distressed look. Along the brim that helped protect soldiers from airborne debris, the heartfelt assurance “LEST WE FORGET N’OUBLIONS JAMAIS” is flanked by engraved poppies, while the double dates “1918” and “2018” mark the centennial of Armistice. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt engraved deep in the recessed circular crown, while the legend and face value are engraved on the brim.

According to Chinese astrology, 2024 is the year of the Wood Dragon, bringing with it the promise of growth, progress, creativity and good fortune. Framed by a wood pattern on this coin, the powerful Dragon is brought to life by Extraordinarily High Relief (EHR) that lifts the finely detailed relief to an incredible height of 4.7 mm. Our R&D team went one step further, elevating the extraordinary by providing a rear view – also engraved in Extraordinarily High Relief – of that same scene on the coin’s obverse, where the engraving rises up to 3.85 mm to give the Dragon a more three-dimensional form within this two-sided design.
This is Extraordinarily High Relief (EHR) on both sides of the coin, a Mint first that is sure to be one of the highlights of 2024.
Own this two-sided showcase of R&D ingenuity.
Special features
- Celebrate the Year of the Wood Dragon. The most revered sign of the Chinese Zodiac, the Dragon comes to life in three-dimensional form on both sides of this coin.
- Elevating the extraordinary. This isn’t just a matter of featuring EHR on each side of the coin: the obverse and reverse form two halves of one design, with the front (reverse) view of the Dragon reaching a peak relief height of 4.7 mm, while the rear view (obverse) rises up to 3.85 mm.
- A lucky dragon. Crafted in 99.99% pure silver with a mirror-like proof finish, this 50 mm coin has a mintage of only 5,388 worldwide.
- Specially designed packaging. Your coin comes in a floating capsule with extra-wide sides that allow for unobstructed front-to-back viewing and a vertical display. It comes in a clamshell with a red beauty box that passes on a blessing for “Good Fortune.”
- Includes serialized certificate. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins.
- No GST/HST.

For 2024, we’re introducing a new tech pairing that has never been seen before on a 5 oz. fine silver coin. Struck incuse, the maple leaf on your coin’s reverse radiates a brilliant shine that is amplified by the black rhodium plated field, which repeats on the obverse. Look closely, and you’ll notice laser-engraved maple leaves are scattered throughout the field. They’re easy to miss, because the dark background alters the way the light reflects off the coin’s surface, grabbing your attention and focusing it on the shiny, incused maple leaf that proudly symbolizes Canada.
This incused maple leaf shines brightly against a black rhodium field.
Special features
- A modern classic. Your coin features an incuse strike and a black rhodium plated field—a new tech pairing not seen before on a 5 oz. 99.99% pure silver coin.
- Black rhodium plating. For maximum contrast, black rhodium plating fills the field on both sides of the coin. The effigy on the obverse and the maple leaf on the reverse offer the only glimpses of the coin’s shiny silver surface.
- A sellout every year. The combination of a classically Canadian design and modern engraving technologies makes our Maple Leaves in Motion coin a popular annual issue—in fact, it has sold out every year since the series began.
- Low mintage. Only 2,000 coins are available to collectors worldwide.
- Includes serialized certificate. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins.
- No GST/HST.

Your coin is encapsulated and carefully enclosed in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded red wood lacquered case, which comes packaged in a black beauty box.

In the heart of our nation’s capital, the hallowed walls of Parliament are home to thousands of carved and sculpted artworks of exceptional beauty. The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to showcase some of the many delights that grace these spaces with this three-coin series featuring carvings inspired by the sculptural art of Parliament.
Coin No. 1: Grotesque Wild Green Man
This $25 coin is 99.99% pure silver, with a diameter of 36 millimetres and a nominal metal weight of 30.75 grams. Engraved in ultra-high relief, the coin features an original depiction by Dominion Sculptor Phil White of a Gothic-style grotesque inspired by a carving found on the East Block of the Parliament Buildings. The image portrays the mythical Wild Green Man. The fierce figure’s foliate hair, brows, moustache, and beard dominate its face along with wide staring eyes and bared teeth. This expressive image seems to emerge from the coin face thanks to detailed engraving in ultra-high relief.
Coin No. 2: Grotesque Foliated Green Man
Engraved in ultra-high relief, the coin features an original depiction by Dominion Sculptor Phil White of a Gothic-style grotesque interpreted from a carving found on the East Block of the Parliament Buildings. The image portrays a Green man disgorging stylized “stiff-leaf” foliage from its mouth. The staring figure’s brows and hair are also composed of whirling, stylized leaves and stems.
Coin No. 3: Grotesque Horned Green ManEngraved in ultra-high relief, the reverse features an original depiction by Dominion Sculptor Phil White of a Gothic-style grotesque interpreted from a carving found on the Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings. The humorous, slightly unsettling horned Green Man sticks out his tongue, his grimacing mouth topped with a jaunty moustache. His face is encircled by stylized foliage and his deep-set eyes peer from below heavy brows. Two small goat-like horns curl out from his forehead. ITEM SPECIFACTIONS Diameter: 36 mm

The only tribute penny in gold!On January 2, 1908—the day that the Ottawa branch of the Royal Mint was itself freshly minted—Countess Alice Grey, wife of Canada’s ninth Governor-General, Albert Henry George Grey, stepped forward and struck Canada’s first domestically produced coin: a 1-cent coin. By 2012, more than 35 billion more would be produced.

The date of the penny’s last production, “2012,” is engraved just below and to the left of the central image. The word “CANADA” is engraved across the centralbottom portion of the reverse field. An iconic image of the Cariboo Gold Rush crafted in fine gold (99.99% pure)! In 1861, prospectors arrived in colonial British Columbia. The gold rush was intense and short lived; and delivered unimaginable wealth for the time. Using panning to locate gold dates back thousands of years. • Your coin is protected by a black sleeve and accompanied by a serialized certificate - your proof of ownership for this coin and evidence that your coin has been individually inspected by our resident quality assurance specialists.

2009 Canada King Edward VIII Copper High Relief Antique Finish Medallion
Canada did not always produce its coins domestically. Until the Royal Canadian Mint opened in 1908, Canadian coins were imported from overseas. Even then, the designs and tools remained the domain of the Royal Mint in London while the Canadian facility operated as its Ottawa branch. This began to change in 1930 when the Mint became a wholly owned Canadian institution.
The reverse shows the uncrowned effigy of Edward VIII who was king of Britain from January 20 to December 11, 1936. When he acceded to the throne in January, preparations for new coins bearing his effigy began, but Edward VIII abdicated before the production tools for all the coins to be issued in Britain and its colonies were completed. Hence, this particular effigy never entered circulation in Canada. The effigy itself is in ultra high relief which is reminiscent of ancient medallic art.
Specifications:
Item number: 107169
Mintage: While supplies last
Composition: Copper
Diameter (mm): 36
Edge: Plain

This symbolic medallion completes the series retracing the monarchy with Canadian coins. It features an ultra-high relief which is reminiscent of ancient medallic art.

Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a maroon clamshell case lined with flock and protected by a black sleeve.

Bald Eagles are found across Canada, thriving on the country’sPacific Coast in particular. Bald Eagles prefer to nest in large trees near isolated, well-stocked bodies of water. Their nests are among the largest in the world, sometimes several metres in height!
The great Bald Eagle is an amazing predator whose image hasbecome synonymous with the notions of freedom, majesty, strength and individualism in North America—particularly for its well-known symbolic status in the United States of America. Eagles, in general, are renowned as much for their hunting skills, speed, and strength as for their striking looks and size. A large brown-feathered raptor with white-feathered head and tail, razor-sharp talons and sharp hooked beak, the Bald Eagle’s vision is four times sharper than in humans, and is key to its hunting prowess.
