Sitting here gazing out the window, something I find myself doing more and more as the days pass. The birds are a treat in themselves, jocking for a position on the balcony railing just so they can glide down to the feeder and fill their bellies for the day. I don’t know if they do it on purpose, but many of the seeds are strewn on the ground and like a miracle, up come the squirrels. Ever so patiently they nibble so delicately on a seed to not let any of the inside drop away.
Then there are times that I daydream in the clouds, of a time when I enjoyed deep conversations with a friend. She would challenge me on almost everything but she was still kind enough to allow me to have a unique opinion or view. I enjoyed cooking for her and she loved doing the same for me. We would try new wine combinations with our meals. Oh, those nights sitting around the fireplace, sometimes just relaxing and talking about our day, other times playing board games and laughing the night away. When you reach a certain period of your life, late 60’s, you wonder if there was anything different you could have done to change things as they are today. Perhaps I may not have been too quick to be critical or judgmental of my friend. Things may have been different for me at this stage in my life. I could have a friend who would be tolerant of me, respect me for who I am, and just enjoy my company sitting around playing games and just talking. Today, she would be fifty-five or older and would like to spend time just enjoying each day as it unfolds. Oh, if only there was someone out there with my same daydreams. You would not hesitate to get in touch and perhaps, start a new friendship. Maybe I can ask Santa for this special Christmas wish! Who knows, maybe he is real!

We are looking for volunteers to take part in a study exploring, via parent-report, the relationship between protective factors and children’s resilience among children (aged 5-12 years) previously exposed to parental gender-based violence.
If you are a primary caregiver to a child aged 5-12 years who lived with you while previously experiencing gender-based violence, reside in Canada, and have internet access, you may be eligible to participate!
Participation in this study is voluntary and anonymous. If you are interested and agree to participate, you would be asked to complete an ~60-minute online survey.

As a senior guy of modest, but comfortable and adequate means, I continue to be blessed with so many great long term friends, neighbours, and so far life long passions. The past year has been tragic and difficult however, as I lost my significant other suddenly. She and I shared so many good times with friends and family. My life goes on, and my own good health thus far will permit continued joys with old cars, camper trailer living, and boating summers up north, sunning on remote beaches, cold beer late afts, walks with my dog, strong connection with spirituality, a good sense of humour, and listening to and playing blues music.
