JOIN ME FOR MINI PINE NEEDLE AND FORAGED FIBRE BASKET WORKSHOPS AT THE ART SCHOOL OF PETERBOROUGH
https://artschoolptbo.org/course/weaving-workshop-mini-coiled-pine-needle-basket-2/
https://artschoolptbo.org/course/weaving-workshop-coiled-basketry-with-foraged-materials/
Mini Coiled Pine Needle Basket Workshop (Beginner/Intermediate)
Pine needle basketry is one of the oldest-known coiled basketry techniques. In this workshop, you’ll learn the basic methods of making coils from locally available pine needles (3-4 inches in length) and stitching them together with a needle to form a simple basket (2 to 6 inches in size). Relax and enjoy the scent of pine while creating a unique miniature basket!Coiled Basketry with Foraged Materials (Beginner/Intermediate)
For generations, people have been using locally sourced and readily available materials to create baskets. In the first class of this two-part workshop, you’ll learn about a variety of local plants that can be used for basketry, as well as items that might be growing in your own yard and home or even found in the fridge. We’ll also go into detail on how to gather, prepare, and dry these items to make baskets. I’ll show a few techniques for making braids and cordage out of natural materials. Finally, we’ll look at how to make inserts with wood and nut slices. In the second half, you’ll be able to use the materials you’ve prepared to make your own small coiled basket. You’ll also learn some of the more complex stitches that can be used in this type of basketry.
While all the tools and materials you’ll need will be provided, feel free to forage locally in your own yard, neighbourhood, or even fridge for items that could become baskets. Some great materials include grasses (long, thin, and leafy are best), long pine needles, cattail leaves, reeds, dandelion stems, cornhusks, iris/crocosmia/lily/daffodil leaves (from the garden or saved from bouquets), young raspberry stalks, burdock stalks, spider plant, bamboo leaves, wild garlic stem, rhubarb stalk, leeks, and even banana skins (bring a whole eating banana if you want to learn to make lovely black cordage). Any items you’d like to work with should be brought to the first class.
If you wish, feel free to also bring your own tools, including scissors, tapestry needle, X-acto knife, old spoon, gloves, thimble, and clipboard (to hold your cordage).

To continue my career in this field, I am currently pursuing a degree in Integrated Mathematics and Computer Science at Ontario Tech University.
With roughly two years of tutoring experience, my approach is to help all students thoroughly understand concepts, rather than just memorize formulas or techniques. I believe that this is a key to long-term success in any subject. To achieve this, I use a variety of teaching methods and resources in my lessons. I also encourage my students to ask questions and actively participate in the learning process, this helps them develop a deeper understanding of the subject and makes the learning process more enjoyable.
Knowing that there are different learning styles, I make an effort to tailor my lessons to individual needs. For example, if a student prefers visual aid, I might use more diagrams and graphs in my lessons, while someone more hands on might require a greater number of interactive activities or problem-solving exercises.
Overall, my goal as a tutor is to share my knowledge and expertise in a way that helps all learners succeed.

Found on to street in the East End of Thunder Bay on the street on about September 1st. Tablet is outdated but suggests possibly he is/ was a cancer patient. Googled the name of the owner and checked around w/o success so far in locating him. None of the contents indicate any current contact information. If anyone knows a Johannes C. Coetzee, please have him reply here and/or contact me. He appears by an expired out-of-state driver's licence to be 26.5 years old. He came here recently from New Zealand. A Certificate of Indian Statue card for a child born early in 2022 would seem to be important. He could tell me the child's name, gender and date of birth, as well as his own date of birth to claim his wallet and its contents. If this wallet is yours or if you can help, plase reply here and call John at 622-8651.
