The Gillis Farm has received funding from the Start Program Nova Scotia. This is an Incentive Work program to help eligible individuals develop transferrable skills that can improve their chances of finding other employment in the future.
Job Title: Labourer/Farm Hand
Eligibility:
As an individual, you must be:
• unemployed
• a resident of Nova Scotia
• a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or an international graduate who meets eligibility
This position is contingent on employee found and approved by the start program
Employment Details:
Up to 20 weeks or more of work (weather dependent)Start Date: immediately
Wage: $19/hr
Work Details:
• Must be able to lift 50lbs
• Weather dependent
• ABLE to work within hours of operation can begin at 6am up until dark , max *8 hours , week day, weekends however hours can be flexible to suit schedules. ** Hours Per day depending on work needed to be done.
• Understanding of planting and harvestingResponsibilities include (but are not limited to):
• Feed and tend livestock, poultry , cattle , pigs and other animals
• Plant, weed, cultivate gardens
• Handle animals
• Maintain or assist in the maintenance of yard and building including cleaning stalls, barns, barnyard and pens, fencing
• Some basic building
• May operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment (chainsaw, tiller, power tools)
• Landscaping
• Tidy, organizing of farm
• Performing other duties as required.Qualifications:
Physical Fitness
Knowledge of and following of OHS policy and safe work practices and proceduresRequirements:
MUST HAVE own transportation. Drugs & alcohol are NOT allowed on the job. Must be dependable, honest, take direction and self motivated.PPE required: work boots, rain jacket, gloves (funding is available)
