We have a full time position available for a Farm Equipment Operator. We produce vegetables, grain crops and seed crops in Chatham-Kent and we take an interest in soil health, cover crops, reduced tillage and reducing compaction to promote better crops. Please contact for more information.
Job description and duties:
A Farm Equipment Operator can prepare equipment for the field by doing maintenance, repairs and setup through out winter months so that the machinery performs well during the busy seasons where it is needed. This ensures that the machine performs its job properly and efficiently. A Farm Equipment Operator also operates the machines, with a good understanding of its purpose & function, and how to adjust to field conditions while; preparing land for planting, planting crops, maintaining and harvesting crops.
December to April – Maintenance: Perform maintenance on machines, annual services on tractors based on hours & service intervals, repairs of machinery, general up-keep and check overs to minimize down-time in the field. Monitor and deliver stored grain to end users (if qualified). Modify existing equipment and fabricate new pieces & implements to improve on processes. (if qualified)
May through mid June – Planting Season: Prepare land for planting using implements such as fertilizer spreader, land cultivator or strip-tiller. Then plant crops using the planter designated to them, such as Kinze corn & soybean planters, RJ tomato & pepper transplanter, seed-corn male corn planter, or cucumber planter. Haul water and supplies to sprayer.
Mid June through mid August – Summer: Setup and operate drip irrigation for pepper and cucumber crops, haul water and supplies to sprayer, spray crops (if qualified), row crop cultivate crops, get harvest equipment set-up and ready for wheat harvest. Get tomato harvesting equipment ready for harvest including: harvesters, trailers & support equipment (dump carts, vine trainer, vine diverter). Deliver harvested cucumbers to grading station daily. Spread cover crops & manure on harvested fields. Continue to deliver stored grain (if qualified).
Mid august through November – Fall Harvest season: assist in tomato harvest either operating harvester, tractor, or delivering tomatoes with truck (if qualified). Maintain harvest equipment throughout harvest season to ensure it is performing efficiently, effectively and safely. Use specialized equipment to help load harvested pepper crop and deliver pepper crop to grading station daily. Also, help with soybean harvest, operating grain cart, truck & trailer or combine to maximize quality and minimize losses. Load seed soybeans into on-farm grain storage or deliver crush soybeans to elevator. As soybean fields are harvested, we quickly spread fertilizer and plant winter wheat at this time as well. Corn harvest has similar duties as soybeans harvest, while also helping to monitor and operate corn dryer. During harvest months, after a field is harvested we also spread cover crops, fertilizer, manure and do primary tillage as required (chisel plow, Salford 5100). Wash equipment and prepare for winter storage, note any repairs that are needed and inspect for worn parts that need attention.

-Candidates should be interested in, and familiar with Agriculture. General experience with machinery is required.
- A diploma or degree, especially in Agriculture is an asset.
- AZ License is an asset.
