Biologist Team Lead - Aquatic
Description
Working under the direction of the Environmental Division Manager the successful candidate will help
deliver our portfolio of existing projects and help implement its vision for a water management group. The
in-house specialist will provide technical expertise, act as Team Lead on projects, and co-lead the
development of processes, standards, and tools within the company.

Responsibilities
● Technical leadership for the delivery of high-quality aquatic science and data collection services
● Design and implement water quality monitoring and sampling programs
● Assess aquatic ecosystems and aquatic species, including fish
● Utilize specialized gear to perform flow and quality measurements
● Organize and implement aquatic baseline assessments, operational and compliance monitoring programs, and aquatic impact assessments, including study design, data analysis, and reporting.
● Compile, manage, and interpret environmental data.
● Interpret and provide advice on relevant environmental management legislation
● Foster an internal team of technicians and mentor junior staff
● Help identify and mentor members of the Aquatic Sciences team to support their technical and career development
Qualifications
● Minimum of an undergraduate degree in a relevant environmental discipline (environmental science, natural resources management, aquatic ecology, fisheries, etc.) and a relevant professional designation, or eligibility to apply.
● Minimum of five years of progressive work experience leading environmental studies, preferably in a professional consulting context.
● Experience and success working in western CanaDA
● Experience working with a range of environmental disciplines (wetlands, vegetation, fish and fish habitat) and with First Nation is an asset. Other assets:
● Working knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation.
● Appropriate qualifications for work in Alberta and British Columbia, and a valid Canadian driver’s license.
● Ability and interest to undertake extensive fieldwork, in a range of weather conditions, including working in remote locations and on programs that may require camp stays.
● Ability to work independently or in teams of technicians with varying levels of experience and maintain a positive attitude.
● Ability and interest to work in a growing consulting environment that requires initiative, flexibility and teamwork
● Ability and interest to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations.
● Research and analytical skills (data collection, compilation, and analysis) with a demonstrated ability to consistently apply high standards of scientific rigour to projects and deliverables.
● Project management skills, including verbal and written communication, technical reporting, budget tracking, and team development.
● Motivated self-starter with a positive attitude and a desire to take on greater responsibility and authority with increasing experience.
● Experience operating boats is considered an asset
