36' Lancer Yacht FR Sport Model sailboat (tall fractional rig)

Layout: Cable locker and U-shaped settee forward with deck hatch above. The head compartment is adjacent aft port side. Aft cabin with double berth and storage compartments forward is port side aft. The galley is to the starboard side. The navigation station is adjacent aft. Double berth is starboard side aft. Machinery space is aft of the companionway. The cockpit has pedestal steering, aft storage lockers, and canvas dodger supported on a stainless steel frame.
Finish: Vessel finish is original white gelcoat with light blue boot and shear stripes.
This boat is not your standard 36’ sailboat, nor is it the standard Lancer 36. They build the standard cruising model with a conservative masthead rig. They also build a sport model with a lighter ballast, taller fractional rig, slightly modified foils and a more basic race boat interior. This boat is a combination of the two. It has a fractional rig, lighter keel with the full cruising interior. Interior layout is different from most boats because this boat was built with no central bulkhead.
I was told this boat was built in the first production run as a sales platform. The original design was a boat called “Chutzpah” that was Bill Lee’s first transpac winner in the early 70’s. At the time it was the smallest winner. The design was sold to Lancer who hired a young designer named Bruce Farr to make some modifications in order to be more production friendly. The tall fractional rig with swept spreaders was part of his influence on the sport model. The forestay on the rational rig is within 2” of the masthead version but the mast is a couple feet forward in the boat so the boom is considerably longer. This allows the chainplates to be in the same location for both boats
