Icelandic ewes and ewe lambs
Description
Located by sangudo Alberta
For health reasons we are downsizing our herd of Icelandic sheep. Definitely still keeping some as they in our opinion are the best sheep.
Incredibly hardy, take the +40 to -40 swings outside without an issue.
Can stay as an only forage fed flock but they do have smaller babies. Or can make it on less than great (garbage) hay with a boost with oats.
Great mothers and have an easy time lambing. Do have fewer babies than the big white ones but the babies they have grow great on just forage and milk.
Decent parasite resistance Only one of the ewes has needed deworming so far this year.
We have found a great market farm butchering the ram lambs. Their meat flavour is mild and delicious.
Their fleeces are also marketable because of their unique characteristics.
Skulls and hides also have their own markets. Very little waste with these!
We have 18 mature ewes available, most are 3 years and younger. 1 didn’t catch her yearling year.
There is 19 ewe lambs all born this spring.
