Jersey/Dexter Cross Cow
Description
Bessie is a very sweet tempered and gentle, trained family milk cow. She is a Jersey/Dexter cross and was born on December 1, 2019. She is a carrier of A1-A2 milk.
She is halter broke and keeps her condition really well and is used to getting oats during milking. She has a great udder for hand milking.
Currently not bred and not in milk.
We bought her in February and found out through doing a milk culture from each teat that she has Staph. Aureus bacteria in one quarter.
I’ve been told this can be managed and kept from spreading to the other quarters through separating the calf after birth and twice a day milking her with good hygiene practices. Or if you can find a vet willing to kill the quarter that is also an option.
Our intention was to keep her as our family milk cow, but our schedule only allows for once a day milking through calf sharing, which is why keeping her and twice a day milking is unsustainable for us.
Located an hour north of Fort St. John.
