Higashikaze Iaido Dojo
Description
With the return to the Yellow phase, we are beginning in-person classes once again. Please bring a mask to be worn in any part of the church. Participants will also be asked to leave their contact information with the church for the purposes of contact tracing.
Iaido is the Japanese art of drawing the long sword. Basic iaido kata combines drawing the sword with either a defensive block or cut, usually followed by another cut, then chiburi (moving the blade in such as way as to remove blood) and noto (returning the blade to the scabbard).
Iaido is used not only to teach techniques, but as a form of mental and physical discipline, emphasizing correct technique, meditation and character development.
Because kata are performed against one or more imaginary opponents and its emphasis on precise, controlled, fluid motion, iaido is sometimes referred to as "moving Zen."
