Mining Operations Engineer
Description
General Accountabilities:
Reporting operationally to the General Manager, the Mining Operations Engineer is responsible for technical management of on-going bulk earth moving work and other projects, developing and executing the quality management system, bid proposals, and new opportunities. In addition, the Mining Operations Engineer is responsible for collaborating with the client and designing mine work plans and schedules for effective execution of the work.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Assist with creating equipment production models and cost models to input into bidding software.
- Formulate estimates including costing, fleet optimization, and schedules for various work scopes in the oilsands region;
- Assist with the development of work execution plans;
- Attend management planning meetings for updates, modifications in plans, and timelines;
- Complete routine mine tours with various operations personnel to facilitate executional alignment;
- Monitor day to day operations through reports and observation and identify areas for improvement in production, operations & safety;
- Perform safe work observations & FLRA audits in the field;
- Ensure accuracy of production data entered by the team of Production Analysts;
- Review and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure performance and develop solutions to shortcomings;
- Provide various technical support to the on-site operations team;
- Stay current with engineering software, developing visuals that can aid in the planning of work;
- Develop internal and client reports and presentations that are professional and accurate;
- Provide support to the contract manager as relates to operations planning and invoicing;
- Promote safe work practices, ensuring any and all deviations are reported and corrective action is taken;
- Continuously manage business relationships with KMC clients by attending customer planning meetings, being engaged in new initiatives and addressing their concerns in a timely manner.
- Other duties assigned;
Qualifications:
Formal Education
- High School diploma;
- Undergraduate degree in an Engineering discipline;
Work Experience
- 2 6 years of related experience;
Competencies & Skills
- Thorough knowledge of equipment and performance and the mining environment
- Ability to read, modify and create drawings
- Strong organizational, planning and coordinating skills;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to pay attention to detail, think logically and analyze complex problems
- Must be flexible and quickly adapt to changing demands
