STORY: Two cats, Minnie and Tilly Grimalkin, decided to give a party for all of their friends. They played games (hunt the slipper), danced, had tea with fruit cake and watched a play (Little Red Riding Hood).
FROM BACK COVER: Alice Goyder wrote and illustrated the “Catland” books in 1893 when she was a young girl. Although she became a professional painter, wood-carver and illustrator, for some reason she never published her first three books which lay, almost forgotten, for nearly a century, coming to light only after her death in 1960.
Happily, these minor masterpieces were worked on hand-made paper. The delicate water-colour pictures are perfectly preserved and, with a revised and abridged text, offer children, three generations later, an original and absolutely genuine view of an enchanting Victorian world.
