Foster updates: Ranger would do great with a home with no kids, maybe retirees or a hunter. He is very smart & learns quickly. He is very loving but loves to nap & not be bothered. He has gone through lots of training and we are happy to chat with his new family and relay all information.
He is great with the foster but has had some serious anxiety reactions to visitors. In all this, it's obvious that he's petrified, and not vicious. But his reaction is still a concern. In working with the trainer around these issues, it seems that Ranger lunges/nips/bites mostly when certain movements startle him - even if he appears to be relaxed or comfortable, and even if we think the movement is minimal. And once he's triggered, it's difficult to get him to stop lunging and barking (he can go on for quite a while). He also has issues when at the vet.
