Renewable Energy Fundamentals for Electricians - XELC 0102
Description
The School of Trades and Technology is pleased to offer a flexible delivery option of Renewable Energy Fundamentals for Electricians. This blended program will consist of 30 weeks of self-paced, self-directed online course curriculum and one week of on-site practical training providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to install and maintain Renewable Energy (RE) power generation systems and equipment. This program will cover industrial, commercial, institutional, power generation, and residential settings in compliance with appropriate codes, standards, and industry best practices.

Energy Resources
Safety
Generation methods
Equipment
Energy storage
System design
Commissioning
Students will be introduced to the theory and practical (hands-on) sides of the industry.
Upon completion, all students will earn a Certificate of Completion from TRU, and qualified Electrical Red Seal students will be eligible to register for the CSA NOC 7241 Solar Installer exam, earning a nationally recognized certification.
Students taking this program will have a leading advantage in the growing renewable energy sector of the electrical industry. Canada’s RE industry is growing at exponential rates, exceeding 16% of Canada’s total energy supply, and over 60% of electricity generated, according to Natural Resources Canada.

Online asynchronous theory training: September 11, 2023 till March 15, 2024
Self-Paced, self-directed delivered with TRU's Moodle online learning platform.
Face-to-face practical training dates: March 18 - 22, 2024
The one-week practical session will take place at TRU Kamloops campus, and will include labs covering:
PV Connector Construction
PV Site Selection
Series/Parallel PV connections
The Effects of Shading on PV Modules
Grid-tied PV systems
Micro inverter vs Central inverter systems
Battery systems
Wind Generator Systems
Bioenergy demonstration
Hydroelectric system demonstration
And more…
Guest speakers, tours and field trips to existing sites may also be included.
Pre-requisites
Electrical apprentice or completed electrical foundation
Computer and Internet access
Ability to attend one week face to face sessions (Kamloops)
Recommended: Red Seal Electrical Endorsement (Journeyperson)
Program Cost: $1495.00
