Stepping Up to Supervision helps bridge the gap between working as a frontline employee and stepping up to lead the team. There is a gap in knowledge and experience that prevents many employees from moving to the next step in their careers. This course addresses that gap and provides the knowledge and skills necessary to lead a team effectively and competently. A recent study showed that 58% of managers said they did not receive any management training. Stepping Up to Supervision introduces and explains key concepts and skills that enable a qualified employee to effectively move up to a position as a front-line supervisor. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older and have at least Grade 10 reading comprehension skills. Students must bring a photo ID to class. OFA Level 3 requires 70 hours of class time plus at least 35 hours of homework in the two-week course. Upon confirmation of registration, you will receive a handout of pre-reading assignments and exercises that must be done before the first class.

A PAL course is scheduled for March 18 and 19. Class starts at 8:30am and ends at 1:30pm both Saturday and Sunday. The cost of the course is $150/person. This WorkSafeBC course provides Occupational First Aid, Level 1 and 2 certificate holders with the required training to move injured workers. The curriculum includes:
Patient handling and lifting techniques
Use of the spine board and basket stretchers
Spinal immobilization techniques
Patient assessment and treatment during transport
Critical interventions
Transportation method
Upon successful completion, you will receive a Transportation endorsement certificate. This certificate expires with the Occupational First Aid Level 1 or 2 certificates.A transportation endorsement ticket is required in any Class A hazard job that is located more than 20 minutes of surface travel from a hospital when the crew size is two to 10 workers.

With growing demand in automation processes, the need for knowledgeable and experienced programmable logic controller professionals is more apparent than ever. PLCs are used in many industries to monitor and control production processes and building systems. This 30 hour course introduces electricians, as well as those who are familiar with conventional motor control theory, to the basic operating principles and various field applications of Programmable Logic Controllers. You will learn the priority action approach to provide lifesaving first aid enabling you to keep your co-worker or yourself alive until help arrives. Skills include primary survey, management of obstructed airway, one-person CPR with AED, shock and bleeding management, as well as how to treat minor wounds. No previous first aid training is required. Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a three-year certificate. The minimum age limit is 16 years of age. Students must provide picture ID at start of class. Acceptable photo identification includes driver's license, student card, recreation centre pass, BCID, or passport.

This introductory woodworking course is designed to give participants exposure to carpentry projects and gain confidence in operating power tools with a focus on finishing and joinery. It will include a strong focus on knowledge and the safe use of tools and shop power equipment. Participants will use carpentry tools and operate a variety of power tools to construct a finished wood project. Participants will choose a project of their choice: a small step stool, cutting board or charcuterie board. Participants will be required to supply and wear CSA Approved footwear in the shop.

With growing demand in automation processes, the need for knowledgeable and experienced programmable logic controller professionals is more apparent than ever. PLCs are used in many industries to monitor and control production processes and building systems. This 30 hour course introduces electricians, as well as those who are familiar with conventional motor control theory, to the basic operating principles and various field applications of Programmable Logic Controllers. The course will be based on Allen Bradley systems but will also include discussion Siemens systems. PLC software training will include a hands-on project to operate a lumber J-bar sorter. This course is designed to take the student beyond the basic level of PLC programming and installation. It will expand on the PLC architecture, analogue I/O as well as PLC to PLC communication via Ethernet. More advanced instructions are incorporated in laboratory experiments. These include math, program control and data manipulation as well as others. An introduction to Human Machine Interfacing (HMI) to the PLC will be given. The student will be completing a number of labs involving the course theory covered.
