MOOSE FORT Fine Art Historic Sketches Conte
Description
I have been intrigued by a number of things about these drawings!
One, that the drawings refer to Moose Fort, not Moose Factory...
Two, that the blockhouse shown, does not match the existing blockhouse, but matches descriptions of an earlier one. ( note the earthworks and log palisade, and the ships mast in the background )
Three, the cannon shown is a ships cannon, as would have been correct for the early fort, but the cannon near the blockhouse currently is a field cannon.
I’ll bet they keep you researching as long as I have
I do not know who the artist was, all are unsigned and undated. Very well executed in what appears to be brown and white conté.
Blockhouse 21” x 16”
Services Building 21” x 17”
Main Gate 23” x 17”
In wood frames, under glass.
Some wear to frame edges.
$150 FIRM for the set
I am located in Trenton, Ontario, am willing to ship.
I have enjoyed these for a very long time now, and really hate to let these three go. They have always reminded me of my teens spent travelling Northern Ontario with my father, painting signs and planes for the Tourist camps, and businesses in the Northern towns. ( Polar Bear Inn, Kap hotel, Marten River Lodge, just to name a couple from 50 years ago... damn, I’m old! )
Only made it to Moosonee area, a couple of times on the Polar Bear Express, but felt like I was home.
