34-ft Classic Ketch for Sale
Description
Custom Benford Designs 34-foot wooden ketch hand-built in Kenora, Ontario. Beagle was completed in 1991 and was first launched on Lake of the Woods in 1992. My partner and I purchased Beagle in 2020 from the original owner and builder upon moving to Winnipeg, MB to pursue a graduate degree. Beagle has served us well over the past three summers as a phenomenal boat, cabin, and source of adventure and relaxation on majestic Lake of the Woods. We are sad to be listing this beautiful craft but are preparing to move abroad and will no longer be able to dedicate substantial portions of our summer to Beagle or Lake of the Woods sailing adventures. If you’re looking for a classical sailing boat, a vessel on which to motor about while enjoying a charcuterie board, or a truly magical floating cabin, Beagle is the boat for you.
Beagle comes equipped with a roller furling jib, a custom gaff-rigged mainsail, and mizzen sail (all in reasonable working condition) and a Yanmar 2GM diesel engine (16 hp or 12 KW of power). All lines run aft to the cockpit to enable single-handed sailing. Engine controls and instrumentation are also located in the cockpit, including a compass, Hummingbird 797 echo sounder/GPS, and a new Uniden Um395 VHF radio mounted in the companionway. The rudder features a built-in boarding device and the bow and stern are equipped with three anchors: a 14kg CQR plow, a 12kg Danforth, and a 5kg Danforth.
Beagle features a spacious cabin that sleeps 4-6 adults. The cabin is comprised of two quarter berths, a v-berth, and a 4-person dining area that converts into an additional sleeping berth. The galley, equipped with a sink, ice box, and Coleman gimbled 2 burner propane stove, is situated midship along the starboard side. The cabin is also equipped with an electrical 12 VDC panel and battery switch, indoor lighting, a chart table, ample storage, a Force 10 propane heater, and a two-piece head.
Beagle was last surveyed out-of-the-water on June 23, 2020. The hull was sounded by phenolic hammer and all available seacocks were checked for operation with no problems found. Additional details are presented below:
Hull design: Twin-masted dory hull
