Ossabaw Island Hogs, gilts, barrows, sows and boars (registered)
Description
These hogs are recovery registered with the Livestock Conservancy. Currently in Canada there is no such thing as a pure bred registered Ossabaw and if anyone can point this out differently for me I'd be very grateful as Canadian Swine Breeders do not include them in their list of heritage swine hence the Federal Pedigree Act won't include them either. I hand raise our hogs in small batches, outdoors and spend plenty of time with them so they are accustomed to people and quite approachable. Its a smaller hog topping out at 175 to 350 lbs and is what you'd call slow food; it takes 12 to 18 months to hit rail weight. They are a very hardy breed which are quite capable of farrowing mid winter without heat supplementing (I do insulate their shelter). The perfect hog for a homestead operation; send an email and I'll let you know more about them. We do have Pig Trace tags along with the registration documents. Currently I have 2 breeding pairs available at 1 year old and another at 2 to 3 yrs old plus several others at almost 1 year old (in June). $300 each for the whole team or $500 individually as they're worth a lot more than that in pork.
