The vessel "SANDERLING" is a professionally designed and production line-built carvel FRP sailing vessel having a raked stem, round bilges to an encapsulated keel and reverse transom stern.
The vessel is laid out as follows, a fore deck accommodates a bowsprit with hand capstan, followed by a stay sail boom and trunk cabin abaft. A foc'sle escape hatch is situated on top of the forward trunk cabin with the main mast stepped on top of the keel. Aft of the forward trunk cabin is the cockpit helm area fitted with an access hatch leading to the lower deck spaces. Aft of the access hatch is the self-bailing cockpit fitted with helm station and built in storage lockers. There is a teak hatch aft of the cockpit giving access to the steering gear.
The accommodation space is laid out as follows, forward is an anchor chain locker, followed by a vee berth with an enclosed head to port. Next aft is the dinette/berth to starboard, across to port is a single berth, next aft on the starboard side are built in cupboards, ice chest, fridge and sink. across to port is the navigation station with a small chart table and electronic aids to navigation.
The engine is fitted on the centerline aft of the stairway leading up to the cockpit. The interior is finished to good pleasure boat standards, with teak used throughout.
The vessel is fitted with a single aluminum mast with one set of spreaders, aluminum boom, stainless steel wire stays to stainless chain plates.
Machinery details:
The vessel is fitted with a single four-cylinder Westerbeke diesel engine rated at 37 hp, the engine is 12 volt starting, heat exchanged and fitted with a wet exhaust exiting through the transom. The engine is bolted to a Paragon reverse gear having a 1:1 reduction, driving through a .75" shaft to a fixed two blade propeller measuring 12x9.
Instrumentation includes a tachometer, oil pressure, volt meter, amp meter, hour meter( 2637.7 hours}
The vessel is fitted with a single fuel tank located under the cabin sole, filled through deck and vented to atmosphere. Tank capacity is estimated at 24 gallons.
Steering is hydraulic.
Electrics:
The vessel is fitted with a 12-volt DC system and a 110 volt- Ac system.
The 12-volt system is made up of three batteries (new 2014) routed through individual shut offs and fitted with 50 amp in line breakers. The system is maintained by an engine driven alternator and wind generator.
The 110-volt system is routed through a factory installed distribution panel rated at 25amp. All circuits are routed through a main electrical panel with a DC volt meter, amp meter and in line fuse.
A 12-volt battery charger is also fitted.
