El Camino project
Description
Checking in to see if anyone is interested in a 4 x 4 project. This is part of an estate sale. The original project was to make recovery vehicle. It was built to have a strong chassis. Builder of this unit is a Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic and RRCC Certified Welder. He operated his own business for 32 years.
Starting with a 1976 El Camino. The Chevelle type original frame has been boxed with custom cross members made and can be seen on 1969 Dodge Power Wagon 1 ton rolling gear. It has a custom unequal length 4 link suspension front and rear with air ride bags from Peterbilt. The body has a custom channel to clear the custom transfer case cross member and has the rear wheel wells filled with 3/16 plate for strength and ease of cleaning Body was sandblasted, metal work done and then epoxy coated (about 1992) and has been in shed storage). It is painted 1969 Corvette yellow from underside and inside. It has swivel bucket seats that need to be recovered. All trim is off but included. Headlamps and lights are included. Comes with 2 sets of doors. The original doors and the new doors that are on the body. Front fenders, original El Camino bumpers in decent shape, rad, front brace all included. All under body is already painted with high end epoxy primer and paint. . Everything is there and needs to be assembled. Perhaps you may need rad hoses and such.
This is on a 1969 Dodge 300 Power Wagon 1 ton chassis. Front diff is Dana 60. Rear diff is Dana 70 floating axle and divorced transfer case. Shocks are from Peterbilt. System is self leveling with Peterbilt air bags.
Engine is from the 1970's era and is a stock 454 peanut head towing motor, 4 barrel. One piston was replaced. Engine has new bearing and rings and has been resealed. Heads were inspected at Abe's Cylinder Head. Any worn parts were replaced. It has great compression, no leaks and runs well. (see video).
Transmission is a Turbo TH400 and has new clutches, new shift kit and new seals. Set up to be street legal when it was started but times have changed. Likely needs an engineer's stamp and body integrity to be street legal now. Probably would pass both tests with the correct inspection.
