The House:
Room for rent in a beautiful, comfortable, and clean home on a quiet street in south-east Wolseley.The house is huge, with plenty of space for everyone. We have a well-appointed kitchen, on-demand hot water system, new front-loading laundry machines, and a very convenient 1:1 bathroom:person ratio (four bathrooms!). There are a lovely porch and balcony for morning coffee, or curling up with a book. Outdoor dining area and fire pit for summer nights with good people. Dining room features one very large piece of extremely ugly art.
Walking distance to groceries, Sherbrook Village, and University of Winnipeg. Very close to the river, ideal for folks into canoeing/kayaking, xc skiing, or skating. Near bus routes 10, 11, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 29, 36, 50, 55.
The Room:
The room is in the basement and is huge, about 350 sq.ft. It is L-shaped, which divides the space up nicely—the last person who lived down there had a bedroom area, a living room area, and an office space. It has a private side entrance and foyer (though I mean use the front door too, that’s also cool). There is enough light from the west-facing windows to grow some happy plants, and with some soft lighting it is altogether quite a cosy space. It's cool in the summer, warm in the winter, the walls are freshly painted, and the carpets just cleaned. There is a parking pad, and ample parking on the street. The room is available as early as June 1, but we would be willing to hold it to July 1 for the right candidate.Rent is $730 (includes utilities), due the first of the month.
Us:
The house currently has two full-time adult roommates (not in a relationship, just roomies) and one part-time kid, plus a cat and a dog. The adult people are employed in careers they love, the child goes to school, the cat and dog are unapologetic freeloaders.Roomate 1 is in his mid-thirties and is still poetry in motion on a skateboard. He is absolutely A Food Person and if he offers to make you tacos you should accept, because they will be delicious.
Roomate 2 (homeowner, mom to Child) is in her early thirties and is a woman of many bathrobes and even more toques. She likes being Outside, and is really into moss.
Child is nine years old and wildly extroverted. He is at the house 4-5 days a week, but is in school during the days and has a ton of extracurriculars so is not actually around a ton childing up the place.
Cat is a thief and a liar and will try to take your food. Dog is large and looks like a cow. Both are super friendly and harass everyone for pets and cuddles, so this isn’t a great house for someone who dislikes animals. We are maxed out for animals so unfortunately applicants with critters should look elsewhere.
It’s very much Not A Party House, but we do usually have people over for dinner once a week or so, as well as lots of chill porch hangouts with tea, and Roomate 1 will have friends over to jam a handful of times a month. We like our sleep and have early weekday mornings, so anyone living here would need to have a lifestyle that wouldn’t generally see them being loud at night past 9pm or so when Child is around.
You:
We are looking for someone of any gender who has their life together and knows how to live respectfully in shared space. Ideally someone clean and tidy in communal areas (your own room is your own business!), who is a good communicator and comfortable being direct about any concerns. Our values are pretty progressive and we’d mesh best with someone who has a worldview along similar lines—racists, sexists, homophobes etc. need not apply. Only looking for one person, not a couple or friends wanting to rent the space together. Sorry, no cigarette smokers (though cannabis outside is fine).Potential candidates need to be employed and/or a student (proof will be required) and have references from former living arrangements. Month-by-month tenancy is okay by us if it works for you, but we would prefer to have someone who intends to stick around for 6-12 months.
