Goat herdsperson required for FALL HERDING
mid-September/October to early December
Work with a team to provide fall grazing for two goat herds.
Expect 4-10hours per day, reducing as days get shorter. (20-50hrs per week)
Training and dog provided, if necessary.
Main duties include:
>using dogs and quad/truck to observe goats while grazing crop stubble fields
>managing water, mineral, and penning requirements
>sorting animals, fencing, and other general duties as required
>yard feeding and animal care once it snows
Must have good observation skills, be self-motivated, reliable, easy-going, and not afraid of work. Must be able to work well as part of a team and independently. Must be physically fit, able to lift up to 25kg, comfortable working with animals including dogs, and able to work outdoors for long hours in any weather or season.
Training provided, but previous experience with dog control, animal husbandry of any species, or animal-based post-secondary schooling extremely valuable. Must have valid drivers licence.
Modern shared accommodation available.
Possible opportunity leading to longer employment.
