- I do require pre-registration and prepayment.
- The Psychological First Aid course certificates expire three years from the date of issue.
- Please note there is no refund policy. See below for more details. Refunds are not available. No exceptions.
Course Location/Location details/Times:
- The course is at 440 Wilsey Road, Suite 104 (please use our outside entrance at the side of the building), in the Fredericton Industrial Park in the same building as Liberty Utilities.
- The course runs 9AM-3PM, but participants should arrive at least 15 minutes early. Doors do not open until 8:30. Please come through the side entrance.
The next dates are:
- TBA
Course Content:
Psychological First Aid (PFA) is about taking care of yourself – your thoughts, feelings, and emotions when you have experienced stress, crisis, or trauma – and then being there for family, friends, and community when they are having difficulty coping.
Learn how to anticipate stress and crisis whenever possible and equip yourself with the skillset to practice self-care and to provide care for others during particularly challenging times. Unlike mental health first aid, which trains people to help someone during a mental health emergency, Red Cross Psychological First Aid teaches you how to build up resiliency to stress and establish coping strategies for stress and trauma.
This course is designed for anyone seeking a certification in Psychological First Aid. We highly recommend this course for people working with those with mental health conditions, those with family members who have experienced trauma, those who’ve experienced trauma and wish to find more resources, and for any group looking for an excellent team building and morale boosting experience for their workplace. This more substantive and flexible curriculum helps you gain a deeper understanding of the Red Cross Look, Listen, Link, Live model – this means having awareness that there is a problem, listening to yourself or others, and linking to resources in your community so you can live fully.
You will also learn Psychological First Aid using the principle of Do No Harm, which refers to the unintentional harm that may be caused to those who are meant to benefit from your intervention.
This course is provided as an in-person classroom format (12 hours) or as a blended online and in-person classroom format (90 minutes online and seven hours in class). The time spent in class gives you and your fellow learners the opportunity to connect with the instructor, who will help you adapt the course to your needs and local context. The instructor guides all learners safely through the course material.
This also gives you the opportunity to learn Psychological First Aid as a group, alongside peers and classmates, building upon one another’s ideas, questions, and examples.
The course uses case-based learning and includes the latest evidence from the international community.Payment options: (KCM will be sending you an official receipt of your purchase)

Workplace Standard First Aid/ Level C CPR (Adult/Child/Infant) /AED (WSFA)
There are two methods we use to deliver the course, but they are exactly the same course, which gives you the ability to choose which option works best for you. The 2-day in-class Workplace Standard First Aid/ Level C CPR (Adult/Child/Infant) /AED (WSFA) course and the Blended Online (8 Hours) – In-Class (8 hours) Learning Workplace Standard First Aid/ Level C CPR (adult, child & infant)/AED course.
Please note: The Workplace Standard First Aid/ Level C CPR (Adult/Child/Infant) /AED (WSFA) course certificates expire three years from the date of issue. To fulfill First Aid requirements for this course each participant who is the main first aid provider on shift must have a minimum of six hours practice each year in First Aid Skills. This review is for individuals currently holding a WSFA certification. It does not replace or renew a WSFA certification. Every three years a WSFA course must be completed again.
1. The Blended Online (8 Hours) – In-Class (8 hours) Learning Workplace Standard First Aid/ Level C (adult, child & infant) CPR/AED course cost is $125.00 (including tax) which includes the on-line portion, class portion, certification card, and gloves.
- You should register and make payment as soon as possible to be able get a seat and to have enough time to complete the online portion prior to the in-class date. Anytime before the course, you can work on completing the online. If possible, we suggest starting the online a week or two before the date to have enough time to complete it as it can take up to 8 hours and time to call the Canadian Red Cross if you need help. I can only send the online once, I cannot assist you with the online or help you obtain your certificate, due to privacy rights I don’t have access to them, only the Canadian Red Cross can. Make sure On-line is entirely completed before the class!! The online is only valid for 6 weeks from the time it is completed. If you rebook to a different date after you have completed the on-line for this course, then you will have to complete the on-line again.
- Warning about accessing online:
1. Please do not make a profile without using the email with the link from the Canadian Red Cross. You will end up with two profiles and won’t be able to access your online. You will have to call the Canadian Red Cross and have them merge your two accounts in order to access it if that happens.
2. Please do not forget which login method you use the first time you register with the Canadian Red Cross link in their email. (One of the following: Blue Sign in button using email and password/ Microsoft/ Google/ Facebook/ Linkedin) If you use a different method the second time you will end up with basically two profiles again. I believe that using the regular sign in is the easiest and less confusing way to go and to prevent any errors- Please note there is no refund policy. See below for more details.

The extent of knowledge required for safe paddling at this level is governed by the conditions within a sheltered bay. The following list is not exhaustive and is provided here as a guide to the nature and extent of knowledge necessary for safe and enjoyable paddling in a level-1 environment.
__________________________________________________________________
Equipment
Demonstrate basic knowledge of the features and attributes of equipment, including:
• Transport Canada equipment requirements
• Sea kayak, paddle and spray skirt designs
• Bailing devices
• Lifejacket and clothing
• Rescue Equipment___________________________________________________________________
Skills
Paddling skills - It is important to master the skills for calm water in this level before moving on to the open water conditions to be found in Level-2.
• Lift and carry - Use proper body mechanics to prevent injury while moving a kayak.
• Launching & landing - Demonstrate launching and landing in sheltered conditions off a beach or dock.
• Forward paddling - Demonstrate efficient forward paddling, with good speed and control over 100 metres. Show good upright posture, torso rotation, extended front arm.
• Stopping - Travel at a moderate speed then stop the kayak within 2 strokes (count one side).
• Reverse paddling - Demonstrate controlled reverse paddling while looking back for a clear and safe route. Show good torso rotation.
• Sweep strokes - From a static start, turn the kayak 360 degrees. Use a combination of forward and reverse sweep strokes. Show efficient placement of the paddle and unwinding of the trunk. While moving forward at good speed, turn the kayak with a forward sweep stroke and edging.
• Edge control - The paddler will demonstrate beginnings of good edging control that assists turning.
• Draw stroke - From a static start, move the kayak sideways 2 metres, using the draw stroke and the sculling draw stroke. While moving forward, move the kayak sideways using a draw stroke.
• Low & high brace - The paddler will demonstrate an understanding of correct technique to prevent a capsize with a low and a high brace.
• Stern rudder - Use the stern rudder stroke to turn the kayak in calm conditions._______________________________________________________________________
Rescue skills
• Bow rescue - Demonstrate a confident capsize and attract attention by banging on the hull. The rescuer will move in from 5 metres away but should not approach at right angles to where the hands or body are located. The victim must show confidence and control; bow, stern, side or paddle presentation may be used.
• Assisted rescues - In deep water, wet-exit and re-enter the kayak with assistance from another paddler. The capsize must be natural with spray deck in place. Rescue is complete when the excess water is removed from the cockpit, the swimmer is back in the boat, the spray-skirt is attached and the paddler has regained sufficient stability to paddle effectively. The participant will demonstrate as both swimmer and rescuer. Participants should have the opportunity to practice both the T-rescue and the raft, re-enter and pump techniques.
• Unassisted re-entry - Wet exit and re-enter a kayak in deep water. Aids such as a paddle float may be used.
