2012 Ducati Diavel Carbon

This is a rare and beautiful motorcycle. I factory ordered this bike for the 2012 model year. It is a carbon fiber edition which makes it even more rare to have made it to North America. Ninety percent of these bikes produced were sold in in Italy. I also included the Termignoni exhaust system which was a $ 4700 option at the time. This included the carbon fiber pipe, titanium header pipes, and a second factory tuned ECU. No aftermarket tuner. The bike actually showed up from Italy with the exhaust and the second factory tuned ECU installed. The stock pipes and ECU were in a box. Ducati claimed they would only honor the warranty if they installed the system. I was good with that. The bike has 42 000 km on it but has been meticulously maintained. Most of the miles were on the highway. I've had the bike in California, road up the pacific coast highway on it. I rode it back across the country five years ago. The bike is built for the highway and has a comfortable seating position allowing for long distance riding. Its a typical Ducati in that it doesn't really like slow speeds around town on a hot day. Get a moped for that. Its also a little rumbly at low RPM. It doesn't like that much either. It'll do both but its a little like a pent up dog on a leash. Put it on the highway and this is where it all happens. It'll cruise all day at highway speeds and the sound is intoxicating. However, this wasn't the primary objective when Ducati designed this. It is not a Japanese v-twin cruiser. Ducati claimed at the time that with the exhaust system installed it was putting out around 189 hp. The new lighter exhaust brought the total weight under 500 pounds. Its its own version of controlled insanity. It has so much torque it can play with 750 sport bikes like a cat with a ball of yarn. It'll run with the 1000 cc sport bikes until it hits its terminal speed of 265 km./hr. The bike doesn't have a lot of wind protection so the top speed is set by gearing and not power. Its a little crazy how quick it can get to that speed. Too fast really for the wind protection. It doesn't make me happy to part with this but I have three bikes and my eye on another so something has to go. I figure its time to let someone else obsess over this.
