Hi, guys! My name's Mike, I'm a Mount Pearl native and O'Donel High School and Marine Institute graduate (where I aced all of my classes), and I'm a highly experienced interdisciplinary tutor, with over 10 years of experience tutoring students, in both face-to-face and online classroom environments, in a variety of subjects and at a variety of grade levels. I recently moved back home after living and teaching English in Portugal for four years while tutoring Math, Physics, and Chemistry online, but now I'm back in my hometown and excited to share my passion for unraveling the mysteries of the universe, and help you or your child figure out and master those tricky academic concepts that just don't click yet.
My tutoring experience includes everything from late elementary school to university-level courses, with the majority of my students seeing me throughout High School. My most popular subjects are Math, Physics, and Chemistry, but I also tutor English as well as a variety of specialized subjects, including Symbolic/Digital Logic, Formal logic and argumentation structures, Ethical Philosophy, Introductory Psychology, ROV, and basic Portuguese!
My tutoring approach is an informal, conversational style based on building a personalized relationship with the student. We will work on customizing their generic in-class material to relate to their interests and everyday experience while identifying and adapting to the specific learning style that clicks best for them. We will focus on breaking down difficult concepts step-by-step into small pieces that are easy to remember and execute, and translating all of the formal gibberish into intuitive, everyday language that you can visualize and understand, in order to paint a picture of how all the steps come together and describe what's actually going on in real life. We will draw a lot of pictures and color-coded diagrams, write up step-by-step instructions telling you exactly how to tackle specific problems, and develop personalized “Cheat Sheets”, which are condensed study guides of just 1 to 3 pages packed with all of the most important formulas and notes you will need to know and practice for your tests.
My students have a very high satisfaction rate, with most of them improving their grades by up to 20% or more after a semester or two with me, and often keep coming back for all three years in high school for multiple subjects. My rate is $30/hr and I typically tutor out of my apartment in Mount Pearl, which will minimize distractions and maximize the student's ability to concentrate, associate the environment with learning, and have access to all of my online and printable resources and study sheets. My sessions are typically one-on-one, which maximizes the focus we can put on the student and their specific needs, but I am also available for group tutorials at $40/hr for 2 students, $50/hr for 3 students, and so on. I can also come to your neighborhood for blocks of time 3 hours or longer, either for one extended session or multiple sessions in the same household or immediate vicinity.
Feel free to call or email me with any questions, or to book a FREE 'trial session', which will be a half-hour consultation where I'll get to know the student, identify their specific subject needs, goals, work out a road map and schedule for future sessions, discuss required materials, expectations, and payments, and answer any questions you might have. We can also work on a problem or topic from class that they are struggling with, in order for them to decide if my approach is a good fit for their learning style, and if they want to move forward from there.
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing from you! I can guarantee that you won't regret having a newfound appreciation for the beauty inherent in how the universe works, and you will see my enthusiasm for the subject matter during our sessions! Oh, and seeing your (or your child's) grades in school steadily improve over time will be nice too!

Do you struggle to understand your smartphone or laptop? Do you find technology changes too often, forcing you to learn new things all the time? Are you trying to change your settings or learn a specific app? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then consider taking lessons with me.
My name is Kyle and I worked with a program called techKNOWtutors, which taught over 1500 people how to use the internet to improve their day-to-day lives. While the program is over, I’d still like to help you with whatever you’re struggling with: filling out forms, online banking, e-mail, posting on social media, choosing antivirus software, understanding the cloud, creating a resume, building a website (Squarespace, Wix, or Wordpress), hosting on Zoom, or any other issues you might be having.
I can also help you learn things like how to use your Fire Stick or connect to your printer. Even if you’ve never used a computer before, I will patiently teach you one step at a time and help you build your confidence with technology. Now’s your chance to learn what you thought was impossible, no matter your age! Message me and let’s start learning right away.
