Help someone with sight loss in Dartmouth & Eastern Passage
Description
Are you looking for a flexible opportunity to volunteer, while seeing the real-life impact you're making? CNIB has the position for you!
As a Vision Mates, you are paired with a person who is blind or partially sighted to help with sighted tasks in their home, deliver groceries, or call to chat. Our current volunteers find this both easy (it feels like spending time with a friend) and flexible (visits/calls are scheduled between the volunteer and their match at a mutually convenient time). Training is provided.
We’re currently looking to match:
- Brenda, Dartmouth, is looking for an older volunteer to help with reading, organizing, grocery shopping, going for walks, and running errands. She enjoys reading, using her computer, knitting, and sewing. She has some hearing loss.
- Marguerite, 90s, Dartmouth, is looking for a female (preferably over 40) to occasionally take her for errands such as groceries and the occasional appointment. The Vision Mate would need to be willing to drive, though wouldn’t necessarily meet weekly. She’s sweet though does seem to be starting with althemizers and can sometimes get confused or frustrated.
- Lui, Eastern Passage, is planning to purchase a sailboat and is looking for a sighted volunteer (with sailing experience) to help during weekly sails over the spring/summer/fall. If you or someone you know have the knowledge and interest to help, let me know!
- Joanne, 60s, Eastern Passage, enjoys collecting coins. She’d like a female volunteer to help with reading books and mail, going for walks, socializing, and running errands. She'd prefer visits during weekdays and is allergic to peanuts and smoke.
