Help someone with sight loss in Truro & Area
Description
Are you looking to help? Are you an introvert looking to help behind the scenes? Or are you a fan of technology, passionate about sharing with others all that you can do? Perhaps you’re looking for a volunteer experience where you can make a friend!
CNIB is filling four volunteer roles that all help people with sight loss in unique ways. If one of these positions interests you, we’d love to hear from you!
Tech Mate: Tech Mates provide one-on-one and group support to people with sight loss learning how to use their smart devices.
Virtual Event Assistant: Virtual Event Assistants login to CNIB Nova Scotia’s virtual events 20 minutes before they start and assist by using the Zoom platform to individually connect people into the event.
Weekly Caller: Weekly Callers phone a list of 20 interested people with sight loss once a week to let them know about upcoming events.
Vision Mate: Vision Mates are trained, sighted volunteers who are matched one-on-one with a person with vision loss. You effectively act like the person's eyes; observing and describing what is required to empower the person to accomplish the tasks at hand for a couple of hours a week. In your community, we’re looking to help:
• Meredith, 80s, Great Village, is looking for sighted assistance from a female volunteer. She is easy to get along with, kind and friendly. She was an RN and owned a general store. She enjoys dancing and watching a good movie on TV. She has long-distance and is vaccinated.
• David, Truro, is friendly and enjoys going for walks and shopping at Giant Tiger. He’s looking for a volunteer, who can visit between 1 and 10 p.m. to help with reading mail, walking, and friendly visiting. He’s a non-smoker, who is vaccinated and uses a walker.
• Bernice, 80s, Upper Stewiacke, would like a female volunteer to help with reading and going for walks. She is kind and friendly and loves people. She also enjoys reading the paper, and watching tv. She has a hearing aid and a walker; she is a non-smoker, who is vaccinated. Her son filled out the form, but she didn’t seem overly interested
