Are you looking for a flexible opportunity to volunteer, while seeing the real-life impact you're making? CNIB has the position for you!
As a Vision Mates, you are paired with a person who is blind or partially sighted to help with sighted tasks in their home, deliver groceries, or call to chat. Our current volunteers find this both easy (it feels like spending time with a friend) and flexible (visits/calls are scheduled between the volunteer and their match at a mutually convenient time). Training is provided.
We’re currently looking to match Sallie, 80s, who enjoys chatting about travel and horses and spent 32 years running a therapeutic riding center. She would like help with reading, organizing, running errands, and going for leisurely walks in the Spring. She would really appreciate someone who would be willing to drive her, if possible.
Interested in volunteering for this position? Email jeff.deviller@cnib.ca and he'd be happy to answer any of your questions!

We are looking for people born between 1946-1965 to take part in a study of leisure, work, and life transitions. While many baby boomers have begun to retire, others are unable to retire or are choosing not to retire for a variety of reasons. If this sounds like you, we want to learn from you. As a participant in this study, you will be asked to participate in an online blog with others in your generation by sharing your experiences and perceptions of leisure, work, and your decision not to retire. Your participation would involve 4 sessions per year for three years, each of which is approximately two weeks. You will be asked to log on to the blog about 5 times in each session. You can create new posts and/or comment on the posts of others. If you volunteer to participate, you will be contacted by a researcher to help you set up an account and get comfortable navigating the blog. In appreciation for your time, you will receive a $50.00 gift card annually. For more information about this study, or to volunteer for this study, please contact: Rebecca Genoe Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies at 306-585-4781 or Email: rebecca.genoe@uregina.ca. This study has been reviewed and received approval through the Research Ethics Board, University of Regina.

Today is a happy day . I heard from him today and we had a great conversation. No yelling, no anger and no hostility. We both just listened to the other without interruption. It was so nice to understand how each of us have been feeling. Today was a bit of a healing day I would say for both. I do not know when we will speak again but some weight has been lifted off of me. I want to thank all the people on here who offered support and advice. Today is a good day

Wouldn’t it be nice if we lived in a world where people actively tried to forgive and work on themselves instead of tearing people down in their spare time? God gave us obstacles and mountains to show others how they can be moved.
We are all a work in progress, but the world we live in right now makes it so hard to correct our mistakes without being beaten down first. Let’s be the change. Show empathy, forgive and help build people up. Let’s move the mountains together. I stand for forgiveness and building people up so they can try again. Every single time like Jesus would. So please next time you have all that hate built up - use that fuel to pick someone up, instead of pushing someone down.

I am looking for laid-back hockey players to play pick-up games at the Zatzman (Dartmouth) Sportsplex on Wednesday nights.
When: 9 PM ice times in April through June, NOTE some outages
Age group: We're mostly 30 to 50-somethings, with some younger folks sprinkled in.
Skill level: An eclectic mixture of beginner to intermediate players all out to have fun and get some exercise.
Play: We play a laid-back style of pick-up hockey. If anyone is overly aggressive, or a particularly selfish player, they will be spoken to by yours truly.
Cost: Spares cost $15 per ice time; Full-timers (BenchApp 'roster' players) cost $112 for all 9 ice times. (FT's are guaranteed roster spots for all ice times) If anyone wants to come out and try it as a spare, I will convert them to FT on a prorated amount based on $12.50 per ice time.
I use BenchApp to manage the roster which supports email message invitations.
Message me for more info.
