I'm a Sheridan Animation student in my second year! I'm offering virtual portfolio workshop/critique for students looking to apply to an animation or animation adjacent program for the 2024 fall semester (or later if you are planning early).

Virtual portfolio sessions are 45m-1h long and include critique for fundamentals including principals of animation and perspective as well as critique on creative direction for personal work. Critique includes draw-overs and examples. If applying to a specific school we will go over the portfolio requirements and work through them together.

These sessions are for students who have current work they need help improving, or for students who are looking to build an early portfolio for a specific school. I have acceptances for Sheridan College Animation (scoring a 93% on my portfolio and a 3.9 GPA), OCADU Illustration, Algonquin College Animation and Seneca College Animation.

I specialize in layout drawing, character design and background painting and have a solid understanding of all other categories included in most portfolio requirements.

In this workshop, you’ll learn the basic methods of making coils from locally available pine needles (3-4 inches in length) and stitching them together with a needle to form a simple basket (2 to 6 inches in size). Relax and enjoy the scent of pine while creating a unique miniature basket!

Coiled Basketry with Foraged Materials (Beginner/Intermediate)
For generations, people have been using locally sourced and readily available materials to create baskets. In the first class of this two-part workshop, you’ll learn about a variety of local plants that can be used for basketry, as well as items that might be growing in your own yard and home or even found in the fridge. We’ll also go into detail on how to gather, prepare, and dry these items to make baskets. I’ll show a few techniques for making braids and cordage out of natural materials. Finally, we’ll look at how to make inserts with wood and nut slices. In the second half, you’ll be able to use the materials you’ve prepared to make your own small coiled basket. You’ll also learn some of the more complex stitches that can be used in this type of basketry.
While all the tools and materials you’ll need will be provided, feel free to forage locally in your own yard, neighbourhood, or even fridge for items that could become baskets. Some great materials include grasses (long, thin, and leafy are best), long pine needles, cattail leaves, reeds, dandelion stems, cornhusks, iris/crocosmia/lily/daffodil leaves (from the garden or saved from bouquets), young raspberry stalks, burdock stalks, spider plant, bamboo leaves, wild garlic stem, rhubarb stalk, leeks, and even banana skins (bring a whole eating banana if you want to learn to make lovely black cordage). Any items you’d like to work with should be brought to the first class.
If you wish, feel free to also bring your own tools, including scissors, tapestry needle, X-acto knife, old spoon, gloves, thimble, and clipboard (to hold your cordage).

Modern Line Dance Lessons for those 50 years and over. This class began on September 18, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. - previous line dance experience required. Classes are held at Parkside Centre, 140 Durham St., in the YMCA building. You do not need to be a Parkside member to attend this class. But for $45 annual fee you help support the centre and all the activities that happen there. All genres of music are used – rock ‘ roll, pop, R and B, country, latin, etc. Parking via digital meters is on street or under the building. For under the building, there is a Seniors’ discount code number provided for you and cost is half price per hour. Cost: $7 for the 1.5 hour lesson - pay as you go (if you don't attend, you don't pay). This class will remain at Beginner/High Beginner level, and teaches are slower than other classes. Line Dance Lessons (Modern & NEW)-Ages 14+

Modern Line Dance Lessons for those 14+ years to infinity, as long as you are able to. This class began on September 20, 2023 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Some previous line dance experience is required. Classes are held at Parkside Centre, 140 Durham St., in the YMCA building. You do not need to be a Parkside member to attend this class. All genres of music are used – rock ‘ roll, pop, R and B, country, latin, etc. Parking is on street but better under the building. Cost: $7 for the 1.5 hour lesson - pay as you go (if you don't attend, you don't pay). This class progresses over time, and students will move up levels over the course of a couple of years. First class is always complimentary. Communication is via email for all class notices which are sent 2 days prior to class. College Credit (Online Film Course) - The Western

Like watching movies? Need a college credit? The online course, Westerns: A Study in the Film Genre, is your chance to gain a deeper understanding of the Western film genre and a college-level credit. Open to Canadian, US and international students everywhere, this Winter 2024 term course is divided into themes such as History of the Western, Landscape and Setting, Actors, Directors, Indigenous Peoples, and Women. Film review choices include those by director Quentin Tarantino and newly-released Westerns!

Westerns: A Study in the Film Genre is hosted by Sault College (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) and runs for a total of 14 weeks. The course starts January 16th with registration open until January 30th - it can be completed by email via conedregistration@saultcollege.ca or toll-free at 1-800-461-2260.
