( NOTE: this is a date change for this month ONLY to avoid conflicting with Valentines Day)Join the Barrie Folk Society, a not-for-profit organization that cares about the growth and nurturing of the folk/roots music movement in our community, as they share their passion for acoustic music. Listen to the sound of live music or bring your instrument and play your favourite tunes in an “OPEN STAGE” format.
Different from the event at the downtown branch, the format for this event will be an “OPEN STAGE” event for acoustic musicians. Each performer (solo or groups) will have the opportunity to take the stage to perform a three-song set (of no more than 15 minutes). This is intended to be an opportunity to get comfortable performing in front of others or to see how an audience responds to your original material.
The event will run on the second Wednesday of the month from 6-830 pm and sign up time will begin at 5:45 pm. There will be 10 guaranteed spots. At the conclusion of the 10 performances the host will apportion the remaining time available between those that have not yet performed and/or give others a chance for extra songs.
Members of the community are encouraged to come out and be part of our audience and enjoy an evening of musical entertainment for FREE!

My name is Dearian Seepersad, I'm a Music Teacher, Performer, and Composer. For the last 5 years I've been performing all over the GTA, including: festivals; pride, multi-cultural, afro-fest, private functions, restaurants, bars, and producing my local show while producing tracks for local Toronto artists. This year, I'm building my independent music school from my home studio. (Big Project!) Too often, I hear about beginner students horror stories about learning in the classical vein or the lack of purpose in general lesson plans. My focus is to create a unique lesson plan for each student to maximize efficiency while incorporating my teaching style into the plan. I incorporate musical expression, technique, and theory into each lesson while taking we've learnt and reworking it into something original. Composition being the ultimate goal; as we learn a lot quicker thinking for ourselves. There are no limitations, I've taught and performed in many genres: Classical, Jazz, Rock,Pop,Reggae, Blues, Hip-hop, Gospel, Fusion, the list goes on... So who am I? I'm a 24 year old musician who's extremely passionate about ALL music. - Completed 3 years Mohawk College Applied Music program. - 5 years teaching experience. (Includes leading band rehearsal and performances) - Developed and promoted shows - Constantly studying the scripts of the great classical composers. - Most important: Patient and Understanding. The lessons I'm offering are: Guitar, Bass, Keyboard, Recording, and Drums. (Drums taught by another teacher) We will discuss: Structure (Form), Harmony, Melody, Counterpoint, Sightreading and Improvisation while meeting the technical demands of instrument.

I have just moved into this beautiful city! Yes, Windsor is beautiful but it is also very very cold! And I am NOT talking about how cold weather is! I am talking about how COLD people themselves are and how hard it is to make friends! Hey there. So I know this is a longshot but I need some help. I am a third year student at Fleming and I'm going through a really hard time. My roommate dropped out of school and left me to pay her share of the rent and my internet. Inhave someone who is able to move in for febuary, but until then I am on my own. Right now, I owe 500 in rent, 130 on my internet and 60 on my phone. I work very part time, but it's not enough to cover what is owed. I don't want to loose my home and it is crucial I stay in school. If anyone could help me...either by donating it or lending it to me . It would help me greatly. I know this is a lot to ask....but I'm on my own after leaving my partner. If anyone can help... Please

I inherited an extensive library of great classical music recordings and have a Thorens turntable, NAD CD player, Quad electrostatic speakers, and a Bose bluetooth speaker. I am interested in meeting people who would like to listen to these recordings with me occasionally over coffee or tea. I have a spreadsheet listing the recordings which could be used as a resource. My name is Dearian Seepersad, I'm a Music Teacher, Performer, and Composer. For the last 5 years I've been performing all over the GTA, including: festivals; pride, multi-cultural, afro-fest, private functions, restaurants, bars, and producing my local show while producing tracks for local Toronto artists. This year, I'm building my independent music school from my home studio. (Big Project!) Too often, I hear about beginner students horror stories about learning in the classical vein or the lack of purpose in general lesson plans. My focus is to create a unique lesson plan for each student to maximize efficiency while incorporating my teaching style into the plan. I incorporate musical expression, technique, and theory into each lesson while taking we've learnt and reworking it into something original. Composition being the ultimate goal; as we learn a lot quicker thinking for ourselves. There are no limitations, I've taught and performed in many genres: Classical, Jazz, Rock,Pop,Reggae, Blues, Hip-hop, Gospel, Fusion, the list goes on... So who am I? I'm a 24 year old musician who's extremely passionate about ALL music. - Completed 3 years Mohawk College Applied Music program. - 5 years teaching experience. (Includes leading band rehearsal and performances) - Developed and promoted shows - Constantly studying the scripts of the great classical composers. - Most important: Patient and Understanding. The lessons I'm offering are: Guitar, Bass, Keyboard, Recording, and Drums. (Drums taught by another teacher) We will discuss: Structure (Form), Harmony, Melody, Counterpoint, Sightreading and Improvisation while meeting the technical demands of instrument.
Each lesson will be 30 - 45 minutes with the option to have the lesson at your location/home. My rates are fair and negotiable. We all have our lives and circumstances going on; it's okay. We are a rock and alternative cover band looking to get out and play again. We've been around for a while with various different lineups. We are looking for a second guitarist to fill out our sound.
We play an eclectic blend of stuff like: STP, Alice in Chains, 54-40, The Hip, The Ramones, Billy Idol, Tom Petty, Marilyn Manson, Collective Soul and Velvet Revolver
