Job Description:We are currently seeking a NPI-LCE Senior Test Engineer to join our Team in Ottawa. Principal Tasks The test engineer will be responsible for the development of automated test solutions for our photonic integration modules and assemblies. These test solutions will be used during NPI and production release phases of our projects. The incumbent will be responsible for test system development from concept reviews through delivery of final test system release to production. Design Tasks include:Generate test concepts for electro-optical modules and assembliesDocument the test concept by working closely with the R&D departmentDocument the Production Test Requirements and communicate to the product designers and other test engineersDesign and document the test hardware and software required to meet all the test specificationsProvide mentoring to technician and junior team members Development and Deployment Tasks:Work with other test engineers while writing the software test steps and sequencesEnsure that the test system meets the design specificationsWork with production engineering during the test system transfer to the factory Sustaining Tasks:Work with the contract manufacturer to resolve any functional test issues that may ariseProvide 2nd line technical support and initial user training to users of the test solutionsUse of SPC for optimizing test solutions for throughput through the life of the test solutionAcquire suitable technical knowledge to be consulted in the resolution of any problems with the test systemsSuggest process or test implementation improvements that will result in higher quality of test solutions Supplementary TasksMaintain test equipment, calibration records for each test set.Procure test equipment and material as needed.Other duties as assigned Customers (Internal & External) InternalR&DProject ManagerNPI ExternalManufacturing partners Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience General:Qualifications – Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or ElectricalQualification – Engineering background in test solutions for telecommunication or datacom productsQualification – Minimum 3 years relevant work experience, preferably in a test engineering environmentQualification – Have participated in a least two full product design life cycles working in multiple system areasPersonal Skill – Capable of representing the Test Engineering department within company forums such as process discussions, customer support, etc.Personal Skill – Good written and spoken EnglishPersonal Skill – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Hardware:Personal Skill – Must be able to read and understand hardware circuit schematics, CAD files and IC data sheetsExperience – Knowledge of optical transmission and optical components is strongly preferredExperience – with Optical test instruments (Digital Communication Analyzer, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, Framed Ethernet and PRBS traffic tester) is preferred Software:Personal Skill – Must have experience with Python scripting, coding in VC++ or C#Experience – Knowledge of SQL database is strongly preferredExperience – Knowledge of National Instruments LabVIEW and test stand environments preferred Manufacture Test:Experience – Understanding of PCBA level test methodology and optical performance/compliance testing.Experience – In high volume manufacturing test design and manufacturing yield improvement Requirements & Work EnvironmentOffice based work environment. Flexible work schedule but should align with core office hours most week days.Physical requirements limited to arranging and moving test gear within the ADVA lab. Success CriteriaAbility to technically lead a small project and write test reports as part of the larger development program.Ability to overcome language and cultural barriersAbility to set and achieve consistent product quality targets.Ability to create and maintain close working relationships as part of a teamOpen communication style. This role requires collaboration with team members in remote sites (at CM and other ADVA offices).
