Parrot Partners Canada is a registered charitable organization (Charity #810688135RR0001) that runs a public education, parrot training, and adoption aviary for parrots. We specialize in behavioural rehabilitation, reshaping, and humane training (as well as parrot boarding!). It is Parrot Partners’ mission to improve the quality of life for parrots in the wild and in our homes through humane and professional rehabilitation, training, and through educating the next generation of owners and social influencers. We have a passion for creating a world where parrots are no longer misunderstood, mishandled or abandoned for expressing natural, instinctual behaviours. We rebrand the image of older, adoptable parrots away from “broken, damaged, unmanageable and undesirable” to stable companions who come with some very desirable behaviours and professional support.
Here is some boarding information about our bio-security requirements and what services you can expect. We offer two types of boarding, both ‘untested’ where the parrots do not have veterinarian records certifying their health, and ‘tested’ where they do. In both aviaries, parrots must be at least 6 months of age.
Tested Aviary –
To enter our ‘tested’ area owners must show a recent veterinarian evaluation (within the last year) which includes a Complete Blood Count (CBC) profile, a negative chlamydia test (some species will also require a negative Bornavirus test). Testing results and the physical exam must show the bird is showing no indicators of illness or infectious disease. The owners must also confirm that the bird has not been in contact with other non-tested birds between testing and boarding. Future boarding in the ‘tested’ aviary section is approved with a yearly CBC and owner verification of no exposure to non-tested birds. If you do not have an avian veterinarian, we are happy to send you a list of veterinarians we work with regularly.
Untested Aviary -
To enter our ‘untested’ aviary the parrot must present as healthy and be at least 6 months of age. Owners who board in the ‘untested’ aviary do so at their own risk knowing that another healthy but non-tested parrots may be boarding in the same area. The untested aviary has been designed with assistance from the Canadian Centre for Disease Control and conforms to their guidelines for a quarantined environment.
In both areas (tested and untested), we provide state of the art air-filtration and sanitization and we practice strict bio-security measures to safe-guard the health of everyone in our facility. We supply cages free of charge, but we do ask that you bring your parrot's perches, toys, food, and any other belongings which will help him/her feel comfortable and settle in more easily. Please let us know if you’d rather they stay in their own cages from home, and we will make space accordingly for their own cages. We also ask that you provide us with written notes as to your bird's likes and dislikes, routine, and personality. We post these notes by your parrot's cage and it helps our caregivers get to know and interact with your parrots more effectively. We supply fresh fruits, vegetables and grains daily. The vast majority of our volunteer and staff caregivers are parrot owners themselves and everyone here shares a love and devotion to animals in general and parrots in particular. We go out of our way to ensure the enjoyment, health, and safety of the parrots in our care.
Our fees are based on the size of parrot, medical needs (if on medication), length of stay, and number of parrots you have. We also offer grooming services at a discount while boarding (Beak trim, nail trim, wing clipping). Our current pricing is attached as a photo to this ad!
