Background info:
The American Chinchilla is the most rare of the Chinchilla breeds. They have a calm and affectionate temperament which makes this breed easy to handle and care for. These rabbits were originally bred for meat and fur. Their coat is extremely soft and resembles its namesake, the chinchilla. Full grown adults weigh between 9-12 lbs.
This breed’s scarcity is largely due to the demise of the rabbit fur industry of the late 1940's.
The American Chinchilla Rabbit can be shown/exhibited or kept as a stocky, hardy pet. American Chinchilla Rabbits do not require regular grooming and can be litter trained.
