Job Overview
Observer provides surface weather and climate data for Nav Canada at the Weather Office of the Wiarton-Keppel International Airport.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Timely transmission of accurate observations is paramount.
• Every effort has to be made to be punctual for shift change.
• The protocol as outlined by Nav Canada has to be strictly observed.
The job posting is for 12 hr. day shifts, at an average of 42 hrs. per week. The station operates on a 24/7 basis. The schedule calls for 3 days on, 3 days off. There will be some flexibility for personal requirements.
Qualifications
• Basic math skills.
• Computer knowledge.
• Written and verbal communication in English.
• Attention to detail.
• Knowledge and interest in aviation and weather would be an asset.
Training
Training for selected candidates will be provided at the Nav Canada Training Facility in Cornwall, Ontario.
The Weather Observation course will take 6 weeks for certification, starting on April 17, 2023. Candidates will have accommodation with 3 meals per day at the facility. While training, they will be paid 40 hours per week at the ‘Federal Minimum Wage’ for the duration.
