Hers the difference between a dumbo rat and a fancy rat.
The dumbo is a mutation of the more common fancy rat, and therefore a domesticated brown or Norway rat. Her ears are large, round and set low on her head. Her lower jaw is a little smaller than a typical rat's, giving him an undeniably adorable expression. Since dumbos are raised as pets only and not as feeders for snakes, they usually have had plenty of handling and socialization from a young age. This means they generally have a cool, calm demeanor and love to play and get attention from you, rarely biting. Like all rats, dumbos are social, so she should be kept with at least one same-sex pal. They tend to live up to 2 to 4 years.
However, the fancy rat is the domesticated form of Rattus norvegicus, the brown rat, and the most common species of rat kept as a pet. The name fancy rat derives from the idea of animal fancy or the phrase "to fancy". They now come in a wide variety of coat colors and patterns, and are bred and raised by several rat enthusiast groups around the world. Fancy rats are generally easy to care for provided plenty of research is done and are quite affordable, even compared to other small pets; this is one of their biggest draws. Additionally, they are quite independent, loyal and easily trained. They are considered more intelligent than other domesticated rodents. A healthy fancy rat typically live 2 to 3 years.
Rats might not be everyone’s idea of a perfect pet or a soothing companion for anxious times, but they have a following, albeit small. When you think of pets you probably picture dogs, cats, fish and maybe even birds. But believe it or not, rats have been loyal friends to humans for over 200 years!
In the 1800s, the term “fancy rat” was used to tell the domesticated rats (the ones that live with people) from the ones that live on the street. Fancy rats were even featured in shows, something that still happens today!
These little critters have their own personalities that change from rat to rat. Some rats are outgoing, some are laid-back and some only want to socialize!
Part of the fun of owning a rat is getting to know your pet’s personality and seeing it grow as they become comfortable with you.
Many rat owners say their pets’ personalities can be very entertaining, especially when they get a brand new object or toy to explore!
Most folks don't know the difference between a half fancy rat and a fancy rat. They have similar looks. But the ears in fact are bigger, they are just on the top of their heads, other then the sides.
My price for these rats are $7.50 each or 3 rats for $18. They are all wonderful pets anyone would be luck to have. I would prefer my rats go in pairs or sets of threes.
Thank you for taking the time to read my ad and please consider adopting a rat into your hearts today. Feel free to contact me with any further questions, pictures, or concerns you may have.
