Zen alarm clock
Description
The Bamboo Digital Zen Alarm Clock wakes you gently and gradually with a series of acoustic chimes. The clock is set in a slender bamboo box, and when the box's hinged lid is closed, it looks like a simple calligraphy brush box or other diminutive decorative item. But open the lid to find a sophisticated digital clock/timer that can be set as an alarm clock, countdown timer, interval timer, or hour chime. When the Zen Clock’s alarm is triggered, the acoustic chime bar is struck just once … 3-1/2 minutes later it strikes again … chime strikes become more frequent over 10 minutes … eventually striking every 5 seconds until shut off (the progression sequence is illustrated below left). As they become more frequent, the gentle chimes will always wake you up—your body really doesn’t need to be awakened harshly; with a Zen Clock you’re awakened more gradually and thus more naturally.
In addition to use its use a peaceful alarm clock, The Digital Zen Clock also serves as an aesthetically sophisticated timer for yoga, meditation, bodywork, or any practice. It can be programmed to countdown to zero and chime, or to strike its chime repeatedly at any set interval. It can also be set to chime once every hour on the hour as a ‘mindfulness chime.’ The image above shows the clock with the lid both open and closed. Environmental Benefits of Bamboo
The wood used in all Now & Zen products is sustainably grown on tree farms, and the company operates according to a strict policy of environmental sustainability for all its operations. However, Now & Zen's line of beautiful Bamboo Zen Clocks sets a new standard for sustainability. Bamboo, which is a species of grass, is a very “green” material for making clock bodies. Compared to a hardwood forest the same size, bamboo produces 30% more oxygen and twenty times the biomass yield. Bamboo can be harvested annually after the first five to seven years without replanting, compared to twenty-five to fifty years for trees, which then need to be replanted in bare soil. Moreover, Bamboo is the fastest growing woody plant on the planet, and it’s qualities of oxygen production, carbon sequestering, and water and soil retention make it one of the world’s most sustainable commodities as well
