PoweringUP: Skills in Construction – 15 Weeks
Provides a blend of job specific construction skills training in electrical, carpentry, plumbing/pipefitting, welding, alternative energy.
Participants also receive workplace essential skills, worksite readiness, construction trades-relevant micro-credential training and a work experience placement.
Participants not hired from their work experience will be placed in a job directly related to their training. All Participants will be supported for 90 days after placement to ensure full-time employment success.
Program Services:
Week 1: Workplace Essential Skills (WES) Training – Provided by Manpower @ RDP
Week 2-5: Part I - Workplace Readiness and Personal Development Training – Provided by RDP
Overview of fundamental skills as expected in Construction, as well as industry-specific jobsite preparation.
Week 6-10: Part II - Occupational Skills Training (OST) – Provided by RDP
Carpentry 101
Electrical 101
Intro to Pipes
Welding 101
Alternative Energy
Week 11: Part III - Targeted Micro-credential training – Provided by RDP
Participants will choose 2 Targeted Micro-credential courses out of four provided options to complement their identified career and employment goals (one week total).
Weeks 12-15: Work Integrated Learning (Work Experience) – Through Manpower
90-day Follow-up
Location:
Manpower Office Red Deer: 400, 4406-50th Avenue.
All classroom training will be provided at the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) campus facilities at 100 College Boulevard (Main Campus)

Qualifications
Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, over 18years old, currently unemployed, EI eligible, Class 5 Driver's License, and currently residing in Central Alberta.
