SUNDAY AT HOME 1871 $60
Description
“The Sunday at Home Family Magazine for Sabbath Reading” was published by the London Religious Tract Society of Paternoster Row, 164 Picadilly. (Paternoster Row, which was destroyed in WWII, was the centre of the book trade in London, and part of St Paul's churchyard.) This is a large volume which combines the contents of an entire year’s worth of magazines. There are stories and poetry, news and sermons - all suitable for Sunday reading in Victorian society.
The pages are remarkably clean with hardly any foxing. The only mark is a name in spidery writing inside the front cover. Most discolouration is on the cover and edges. The only odour is a slight pleasant whiff of wood smoke, not cigarette or musty.
Beautifully illustrated; I have shown some of the colour plates but there are plenty of B&W pictures as well.
Selling this on behalf of my church. It has been lying quietly in the library for years but it’s an antique and really belongs in the hands of a collector. Priced below average eBay SOLD prices (these are usually in the UK and shipping would be over $50, for starters).
