Harlequin breeding project for meat rabbits
Description
Looking for someone interested in taking over a meat rabbit breeding project from me, 5-6 rabbits. I was working on breeding up large, harlequin-coated meat rabbits, because finding good harlequin rabbits around here was proving difficult. One of my rabbits was carrying it recessively so bred to some of my does carrying non-extension and managed to get a few decent heterozygous carriers. The next step would be to linebreed or breed out to other non-extensions before breeding back. Still selecting for coat and size but after that would recommend breeding for temperament for a few generations before focusing on homozygousity and clear coat divisions.
Presently, the four does I have for this purpose are my orange doe, a black and white magpie showing some facial division, a blue and white magpie, and a black and orange harli. I also have a blue and cream harli buck from the same litter as the blue and white/black and orange doe (children of the orange doe; the black and white is the daughter of a different, but related, doe, same father as the others.) Depending on your interest, I also have a silvered chocolate Vienna buck who is entirely unrelated, carrying non-extension, who could be good for breeding out to before breeding back to the buck, if you'd be interested in breeding non-spotted tricolours (Vienna marked, not piebald/broken, so more like a Calico cat than the usual tricolour in rabbits.)
Happy to talk more at length about it with someone interested in taking over the project. I'm not asking for much money for these rabbits, but only want to rehome them to someone who understands intentional breeding and rabbit coat colour genetics. Please contact me if this is you and you're interested!
