Description
Located just south of Saskatoon, SK, the Grasswood Horse Park is managed by a volunteer non-profit group, the Corman Park Horse Riders Association (CPHRA). Riding facilities include a natural trail obstacle course, two fenced arenas, a perimeter trail and a polocrosse field.
The park is open to the riding public with a paid membership All membership fees go towards maintenance and development of the park.
As a multipurpose equine friendly park, it supports a variety of horse-related pursuits in a safe environment, to be around for future generations to enjoy. Because of the diverse needs of park users, expansion of facilities and event organizing is on going and ever changing, limited only by budget and volunteer availability. Situated on 50 acres, the park is approximately 15 minutes south of Saskatoon, near the corner of Baker Road (Township Rd 354) and Preston Ave (Range Road 3052).
Qualifications:
To succeed as the park attendant at Grasswood Horse Park, you must:
- Have a valid class 5 driver’s license
- Willing to take Food Handler Certification
- Willing to take WHMIS Certification
- It would be a benefit to have first aid training
- It would be a benefit to be comfortable around horses
- Can operate and maintain park equipment (weed whackers, mowers, power tools,
etc.)
- Can work independently and as part of a team
- Can complete physically demanding tasks
- Possess strong organization, communication, and time management skills
- Be available from early May to late August, this position includes some weekend and evening work that will be negotiated between the board members and the park attendant.
-This position is made possible by Canada Summer Jobs and therefore there is an age restriction of 30 years old or younger.
Duties:
- Supervision of events and/or rentals at the park (employee MUST be present during all rentals at the park for supervision and orientation purposes. If unable to be present, the attendant will negotiate his/her absence with the board members)
- Plan weekly work schedule and confirm it with CPHRA supervisor (plan with weather and rentals/events at the park in mind)
- Check in & out with CPHRA supervisor at start and end of work hours each day
- Plan and maintain work schedules, records, and logs (timesheets, check in/out with CPHRA board member, etc.)
- Supervision of trail course drop-in days, trail course season pass holder days, Negative Coggins days, and all other events organized to promote the park.
- Maintenance of park grounds, this includes but is not limited to:
- Mowing perimeter trail, grass around arenas, in parking and main areas, and in the trail course on a regular basis or as needed.
- Weeding around obstacles in the trail course and in/around arenas as needed
- Harrowing arenas on a regular basis or as needed
- Maintenance of trail course obstacles
- Maintenance of all fences (perimeter, trail course, arenas)
- Maintenance of park equipment (mowers, weed whackers, power tools, etc.)
*All park related expenses will be refunded to the employee by the CPHRA treasurer
-There may be additional duties assigned by board members
Pay
In return for working at the park, the successful candidate will receive an hourly wage rate of $16.00. The number of weeks we require the attendant is 16 weeks and a work week is 30 hours per week.
