PRICE DROP Chevy Astro Camper Van, NEEDS MECHANICAL WORK
Description
2004 Chevy Astro off-grid camper conversion, 'Bill the Spacevan'
This van needs mechanical work - brake lines, brakes, fuel line - and some body work, but It is a great off-grid camper van and a great deal for someone who is ok doing the work. Engine and transmission run very strong
The interior conversion is very cozy, constructed with care and expertise, and well appointed with high quality items. It has a solid frame and underside, a great engine (4.3 Vortec V6) that runs really smoothly, with low mileage at 220,000km. This is a great deal for someone looking for a camper conversion who is ok with doing some mechanical work (more info below).
I love this van, it was my home for three years as I traveled across Canada. It handled long hauls incredibly well, and is very stealth and wonderful at being places that maaaayybe you shouldn't be camping without getting noticed haha.
The conversion inside includes a 100w renergy solar panel and controller, a 120ah deep cycle marine battery, charge meter, maxxair 6200 vent fan (which is honestly incredible and keeps the space so cool and comfortable), 600w power inverter (so you can plug 120v things in directly) LED lights tied directly to the house battery, as well as a separate set tied into the van's main running battery, LED strip lights, and a battery to battery charger that can be flipped on if needed (but I've never actually needed to use it as the solar set up provides more than enough power). There is a single mattress (in very good shape, no stains) and a folding bed platform with storage set up underneath, a sink, 8 gallon water supply, small usb powered pump, and drain bucket. I stripped and insulated the whole van using polysio foam board as well as a layer of reflectix, which insulates the van incredibly well. The walls are finished with a white wood grain veneer board, and there is a good quality privacy curtain as well.
Circumstances in my life changed and I was no longer able to travel, nor was I able to fix the issues that have come up, and the van has been parked since 2024. But I would genuinely love for someone to fix him up and explore the joy of van life again, as there is so much goodness here.
WORK NEEDED
Two brake lines and the fuel line need replacing/repair, they rusted out and have burst. You will need to do new front brakes, and most likely rears as well as they are at the end of their life cycle. It needs some tlc and body work; the drivers side rocker panel is rusted through beneath the door (but not along the rest of the body) I have the panel to weld in. One of the rear wheel arches has rust breaking through and would need repair as well, some small bubbling along the sliding door. The rest of the body is in quite good shape. Underside has surface rust, but was krown rust treated and only winter driven one year in my ownership. There are no holes through the frame or floor, and no serious issues with rust.
Runs great, drives, stops, all electrics and signals work, newer winter tires with a lot of tread left.
This van is not roadworthy at the moment and will need to be towed upon sale, you will not be able to drive it away.
The engine runs fantastically and has always been serviced and maintained well, the transmission shifts and drives great (this vehicle is also rated for towing up to 5500lb i believe). Its rwd, no cruise control, the AC does not work. There are no warning lights on the dash aside from the brakes.
If you have any questions please reach out. If you want to try a trade, go for it, who knows!
$3900 obo
I would love to help someone get into van life-ing and experience the joy and freedom of that, and give this beloved van a second life!
