Responsibilities
Area(s) of Accountability: Production Engineering, and Production Preparation department.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Production:
1.Supervision and Oversight of Production Engineering Specialists.
2.Assists in reviewing and approving time sheets, vacation planning, leave of absence, etc.
3.Departmental business planning including Headcount, CAPEX and Expenses.
4.Procedural Development
5.Assist with Performance Appraisals
6.Assists in the selection of new staff, including recommendations for the department direction and vision.
Safety:
7.Obtain necessary permits, and approvals from regulating bodies such as the Ministry of Environment, Ontario electrical safety inspection, TSSA, etc.
8.Obtain Pre-start health & safety reviews for adherence to OHSA.
Daily Production:
9.Identify, analyze, and resolve systemic problem areas using structured problem-solving techniques and reviewing data; evaluate, justify, recommend, and implement action plans for solutions.
10.Work with Tool/Die team to troubleshoot and identify improvement opportunities related to stamping production.
11.Proactively seek input from Production and Tool/Die personnel to ensure existing dies/equipment are operating at optimum levels.
12.Provides technical guidance and work with Tool and Die personnel as required during repairs and troubleshooting of equipment/die related issues.
Continuous Improvement:
13.Observe internal Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify, and initiate improvement activities related to Tooling and Stamping operations.
14.Suggests new methods or technology and recommends options to improve current products and processes to provide more competitive manufacturing services.
Engineering/Model Launches and ECIs:
15.Ability to calculate (or validate) coil strip widths/feed lengths, number of stations required, tonnage requirements using part design.
16.Interpret Simulation Data (CAE) and provide feedback on part/die design modifications to obtain optimal part quality considering press capabilities and tool maintenance.
17.New Die Introduction:
i.Lead and support the preparation of new die design specifications and RFQs.
ii.Manage new tooling procurement from design and development and oversee their implementation in mass production. Develop and track project schedule for new dies trials.
iii.Lead and manage die design reviews of new tooling (built locally as well as imported) for manufacturability and product quality evaluation.
iv.Lead buyoff (PPAP) activities to confirm dies meet SPM, Quality and internal die standards.
18.Project Management:
i.Direct “Model Launch Teams” as required to achieve goals, and Targets of project..
ii.Coordinate new tooling trials at FIO presses to support new model pre-production activities.
19.Determine requirements/modifications required to presses/dies for process change/engineering changes (ECI).
Other:
20.Demonstrate an understanding of SDGs and participate in programs that enhance environmental performance. Identify, and communicate any potential non-conformances.
21.Demonstrate an understanding of the significant environmental impacts of your work activities; follow work instructions to ensure positive environmental performance is sustained. Understand the consequences of delineating from them.
22.Demonstrate an understanding of the EPRP (Emergency Preparedness Response Plan).
Qualifications
•Degree/Diploma in a technical field with more than 10 years of Tool and Die maker experience beyond the completion of formal apprentice.
•5+ years of experience in Die Design and Die/Tooling project management.
•Knowledge of tool making, repairs, machining, spotting and troubleshooting.
•Previous experience in Tool and Die Leadership is highly desired.
•Proactive, and self-motivated with strong initiative to make improvements in systems, and procedures.
•Strong design skills with expertise in Solid works and AutoCAD.
•Strong communication skills including written and verbal.
•Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office applications.
