Bell Satellite HD PVR Receiver Repair --> Get It Working Again
Description
Hi. If you have problems with your HD 6131/6141/6400/9241/9242/9400 unit I can possibly fix - if it requires partial recapping. Issues include no/brief power on, sudden power off; channels - none/partial/or slow changing, or frozen/no video outputs but possibly sound, or high pitched squealing sounds. Another issue is that IR remote doesn't control unit anymore.
The 9242 is more complex, has a large separate power supply board, and requires more time for r&r. If it only has video interference on RF Out (TV2 but not composite) it may possibly be fixed though very hard to get the part for it.
If you suddenly see the checking for SAT transponders screen while using your unit, please check your connections and switches from the dish to the unit. You may have an external issue, and it may not necessarily be something wrong with your unit. Run the Check Switch. Ensure your dish alignment is correct.
If your unit is constantly starting up to a certain point, and rebooting - it is hard to say whether or not I can fix it. However, there will be a reduced charge for the repair work needed in order to test operation (if I'm not successful). It is possible though rare for the NVRAM chip to go bad due to age, to a power surge, software is way out of date (Bell had a fix a few years back), or is affected by bad caps causing a lack of power.
If your PVR hard drive is not working, I can possibly replace that also (depends on refurb or new drive availability) with a special 1 TB video hard drive.
Note: I cannot work on rental units, if you pay for DishCare, or still have warranty. If Bell does not want you to return your non-working unit - please contact me and I will consider buying your parts unit from you. Note that it must have the Smart Card, any UHF antenna, and be removed from your account in good standing. Any remote - working or not should be included.
Sooner/later certain caps on all these units will fail as Bell decided to use an inferior quality cap. This is an inconvenience to people that purchased their receiver or PVR. It continues to happen as Bell still puts these poor quality caps into their refurb units (while stock lasts).
You will see any bad caps if you remove the top cover when power is off.
Be leary of buying any used unit especially online as most sellers do not bother to check.
I encourage all owners to ensure proper ventilation of their unit, and to blow out any dust build up
inside (preferably with an air duster - I sell a large can of this also) yearly especially on PVR units.
Excess heat is bad for the components on the boards.
=======
I may have refurbished HD units for sale in the near future like 6131, 6400, and 9242. Please ask.
I also have for sale some quality APC surge protectors that are wall mount with six outlets that are very affordable. Tripplite is another good brand. There are many brands out there that claim to surge protect but won't work when you actually have a power surge!
I'm an electronic reseller and also repair/service computers, so GST/HST (and PST for businesses) will apply to the total.
You may also mail me any units you want to have repaired. Or I can possibly arrange meeting in Swift Current, Moose Jaw, or Saskatoon, etc. for either pickup or return depending on my schedule.
Otherwise, postage within most of the province is well under $30-40 or so.
Thanks.
